Yes. Tailscale users can route internet-bound traffic through a Mullvad VPN exit node and still connect to devices on their tailnet. Tailscale handles private connections between your devices; Mullvad supplies the internet-facing VPN route. The integration is managed in Tailscale, not through Mullvad’s standalone app.
What the Tailscale–Mullvad partnership does
The integration adds Mullvad servers as exit nodes that Tailscale users can select. When enabled, internet traffic from a device goes through the chosen Mullvad node, while the device can continue reaching other devices and services on its Tailscale tailnet. The two services therefore address different needs: tailnet access between your own devices and VPN routing for internet-bound traffic.
Tailscale’s partnership announcement describes the client receiving information about available Mullvad nodes and the selected region. Traffic then travels directly from the device to the selected Mullvad server. The announcement says the connection is encrypted with WireGuard and that Tailscale does not have the private key needed to decrypt user traffic.
What each service can see
Encryption does not mean the combined setup is anonymous to Tailscale. Its Mullvad exit nodes documentation says Tailscale manages Mullvad account information for the user, knows which Mullvad accounts correspond to Tailscale users, and can identify from logs which users connect to which Mullvad servers. The same documentation says Tailscale cannot access the WireGuard-encrypted user traffic and that Mullvad does not receive the user’s identity information from Tailscale.

In practical terms, the integration separates traffic content from account and connection metadata: Tailscale says it cannot decrypt the traffic, but it does associate accounts and may log server selections. Consider that distinction when deciding whether the service fits your privacy needs.
How to enable Mullvad exit nodes
- Have a tailnet administrator purchase the add-on. The purchase is made in the Tailscale admin console. Availability and billing depend on country and Tailscale plan.
- Grant devices access. The administrator can manage access through the console or tailnet policy. Tailscale documents these as alternative methods; they cannot be used together for the same tailnet configuration.
- Select an exit node on each device. After access is granted, each enabled device must separately choose a Mullvad exit node in its Tailscale client.
Tailscale’s documentation labels the feature beta; it was last validated January 9, 2026. It lists Tailscale version 1.48.2 or later as a requirement. Version 1.48.3 and later do not require additional DNS configuration according to the documentation. Versions 1.48.1 and 1.48.2 may require DNS or local-network settings.

Compatibility and availability limits
- Custom DERP servers: The documented integration is incompatible with custom DERP servers.
- Access policies: Google-synced groups are not supported in access policies for this feature.
- Tailnet Lock: Mullvad exit nodes must be signed when Tailnet Lock is in use.
- Windows client: The Windows app cannot display the full exit-node list; the command-line interface can show it.
- Countries and locations: The add-on can be purchased in most countries, but some countries and regions are excluded. Available Mullvad cities and countries can change, so check the live Mullvad server list and Tailscale’s documentation for current availability.
Price and licenses
Tailscale’s partnership page displays a price of $5 per month for five devices. Tailscale’s documentation says the base add-on includes five licenses and that more licenses can be added. Billing options vary by plan: Personal and GitHub Community plans can pay monthly or annually; Standard and Premium are billed monthly; Enterprise customers must contact their account team. Treat the displayed price as a vendor quote that may change, and confirm the current amount, eligibility, and terms in checkout.

If you need both tailnet access and a Mullvad internet exit, the integration brings those roles together. If you need only one of them, the second service and its configuration may not be necessary.
