For parts and filament, check compatibility specifically for the Ultimaker 3 rather than assuming that products for newer UltiMaker models will fit.
What the Ultimaker 3 workflow involves
The official Ultimaker 3 User Manual, English v1.4 describes the process from installation through routine care. The printer uses build and support print cores, giving separate roles to the material forming the part and material used to support its geometry. The manual’s specification table is the appropriate reference for dimensions and performance figures; the available product information here does not establish build volume, speed, temperature range, or resolution.
For model-specific questions, UltiMaker’s UM3 FAQ includes topics on print-core and printer compatibility, material compatibility, firmware, adhesion sheets, and calibration. Use those Ultimaker 3-specific entries when deciding what to install or how to troubleshoot.
Set up and prepare a print
- Install the printer and read the manual’s setup instructions. Follow the Ultimaker 3 manual rather than instructions for a newer model.
- Install the print cores and load material. The manual has dedicated sections for core installation and material loading. Confirm that each core and filament is compatible with the Ultimaker 3 before use.
- Connect and update as needed. The manual covers Wi-Fi and firmware. For model-specific firmware information, use the corresponding entry in the UM3 FAQ.
- Prepare the job in UltiMaker Cura. The manual documents preparing a print with Cura and sending it to the printer.
- Print, remove supports, and maintain the printer. Follow the manual’s instructions for print removal, support handling, and scheduled maintenance.
Choose filament and support material carefully
UltiMaker’s material resources surface 2.85 mm filament as a relevant diameter for this printer family. Check the exact material’s product information and Ultimaker 3 compatibility before buying or loading it; diameter alone does not establish that a filament works with a particular core. UltiMaker’s materials category can help locate relevant products, but its listings and inventory may change.

Support choice depends on how the support will be removed and whether it is compatible with the build material and selected core. UltiMaker identifies PVA as water-soluble and discusses PLA, PVA, and Breakaway as support options. Its guidance does not provide a complete compatibility table for every material pairing, so verify the specific combination before printing.

Check replacement print-core compatibility
Before ordering a replacement, confirm that it is explicitly compatible with the Ultimaker 3 and matches the required core role. Build and support are distinct roles in the UM3 workflow. Nozzle size is another relevant specification, but a category or core description for a newer printer does not prove that the part fits or is supported on the UM3.
A March 2026 UltiMaker print core data sheet describes AA, BB, and CC core-use categories, but its excerpt does not establish Ultimaker 3 compatibility. Use the model-specific compatibility guidance in the UM3 FAQ before selecting a core.

Use the manual for maintenance and troubleshooting
The owner manual includes scheduled maintenance instructions, while the UM3 FAQ provides model-specific topics such as calibration, adhesion sheets, and firmware. Start with the relevant manual or FAQ entry for the symptom or maintenance task rather than applying procedures from another UltiMaker model. The UM3 FAQ includes entries updated in 2025–2026; availability and details can change as support pages are revised.
