Choose an Anker power station by matching its output to the appliances you may run at the same time, its battery capacity to how long you need them powered, and its voltage and connection options to the circuits you want to back up. In Anker’s US lineup, the SOLIX C1000 is the smaller 120V option, the F2000 adds capacity, and the F3800 offers higher output and 120V/240V capability. None should be treated as whole-home backup by default: the result depends on the loads and, for home circuits, the system configuration.
Start with the appliances and circuits you need during an outage
Write down the loads you consider essential, such as a refrigerator, modem and router, lights, or medical equipment. Add optional loads—such as a microwave or other cooking appliance—only if you actually want to use them during an outage. For each appliance, check its label or manual for operating watts and, where applicable, startup or surge requirements.
Then consider which appliances might run together. The station’s output must handle their combined demand at that moment, including startup needs. If you are backing up house circuits rather than plugging devices directly into the station, identify the specific circuits and have their electrical compatibility and installation requirements confirmed for your home.
Understand watts, watt-hours, and runtime
Output in watts is about what can run at once
The inverter’s watt rating describes the power it can supply to connected loads. A station with a higher rating can support a larger simultaneous load, subject to its published continuous and surge limits and the requirements of the appliances.

Capacity in watt-hours is about stored energy
Watt-hours (Wh) describe the energy stored in the battery. More capacity can support a given load for longer, but it does not increase the inverter’s output rating. A high-wattage appliance can draw down stored energy faster than a small one.
Do not treat a capacity figure as a runtime promise
Actual runtime depends on the connected load, whether appliances cycle on and off, conversion losses, and any reserve settings. Anker’s published capacity alone does not establish how long a particular refrigerator—or a household—will run. Estimate from the loads you intend to use, and leave room for variation rather than planning around an exact duration.

Compare Anker’s main options for home backup
The figures below are manufacturer-published US product specifications and comparisons, not independent performance tests. Anker’s 2026 home-generator comparison gives the C1000 and F2000 figures; Anker’s F3800 product page gives the F3800 specifications. Check the current product revision and bundle before buying. These three models are useful comparison points, not the full current catalog: Anker’s US portable power station catalog also lists other models, including the F3000 and C2000 Gen 2.
| Model | Published capacity | Published AC output | Voltage | Best fit to consider |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SOLIX C1000 | 1,056Wh | 1,800W continuous; 2,400W surge | 120V | Essential 120V devices and comparatively short outages, when its output and capacity suit the planned loads. |
| SOLIX F2000 | 2,048Wh | Up to 2,400W in inverter mode | 120V | A middle-capacity option for home essentials with portability or RV use also in mind. |
| SOLIX F3800 | 3,840Wh | 6,000W per unit | 120V/240V | Higher-demand loads or selected home circuits with an appropriate configuration. |
These tiers differ in both simultaneous output and stored energy. The F3800’s 240V capability can matter for compatible loads that a 120V-only station cannot serve, but it does not make the unit an automatic whole-home solution.

Choose the right connection: outlets, transfer switch, or home system
Portable outlet use
With a portable station, connect compatible appliances directly to the station’s outlets. This is a straightforward way to power selected devices, but it does not by itself energize household wiring or provide backup to every circuit.
Manual transfer-switch setup
Anker offers an F3800 bundle with a 10-circuit manual transfer switch for selected home circuits. This is distinct from using the portable station’s outlets: it is a home-circuit configuration, and compatibility and installation must be confirmed for the particular electrical panel and setup. Follow the product documentation and qualified electrician guidance rather than improvising a connection to household wiring.

Configured automatic home power system
Anker’s F3800 Home Power System page describes configurations with automatic backup and higher system output or capacity when additional equipment is included. Anker claims a 30 ms automatic transition for the system it describes; that is a vendor claim for that configuration, not a universal guarantee for every F3800 setup or home.
Do not conflate a portable F3800, an F3800 paired with a manual transfer switch, and a configured home power system. They are different purchase and installation choices. Confirm the exact equipment, supported circuits, and installation requirements before relying on automatic or circuit-level backup.

Check voltage, charging, and solar compatibility
A 120V-only station will not serve every 240V appliance. If a specific 240V load matters, verify that the model and chosen configuration support its voltage and connection. For the F3800, Anker’s product FAQ says its 240V output cannot be used while the station is charging through 120V AC. The same FAQ states that only its three designated 120V ports operate in UPS mode; its 240V ports do not. Check the current manual and installer guidance for the actual setup.
Plan how the station will be recharged before, during, and after an outage. Grid charging may be available when utility power is present. Solar charging depends on sunlight and the connected panel configuration, and the station’s input limits must match the panels. Anker’s F3800 FAQ states that its solar input supports an 11–60V solar charger with an XT-60 connector; check the current specifications for voltage, current, and wattage limits before connecting panels. Solar input does not guarantee a particular recharge time or amount of energy.
Decide whether an expansion battery is useful
A compatible expansion battery adds stored energy; it does not, by itself, increase inverter output, make a 120V model suitable for 240V loads, or guarantee a particular runtime. Anker lists the BP3800 3,840Wh LFP expansion battery as compatible with the F3800 and F3800 Plus on its Expansion Batteries page. The F3800 base capacity is 3,840Wh, but maximum capacity depends on the system configuration. Verify the current documentation for the exact model and configuration rather than applying one system’s maximum to another.
Use the manufacturer’s storage guidance for the exact unit
Anker’s F3800 product FAQ advises turning off outputs, storing the unit in a cool, dry place, checking capacity weekly and recharging if it falls below 30%, and charging it to 100% every three months. This is guidance on the F3800 product page; follow the manual for your specific station if its instructions differ.
Quick Recap
A practical way to make the decision
- List essential loads: Record the appliances and circuits you want backed up, along with their running and startup requirements.
- Check simultaneous output: Add the loads that may run together and compare the total with the station’s continuous and surge ratings.
- Estimate energy needs: Consider how long each load is likely to operate, accounting for cycling and a practical reserve; do not infer a guaranteed runtime from battery capacity alone.
- Match voltage and connection: Confirm 120V or 240V needs, then choose among direct appliance connections, a compatible transfer-switch setup, or a configured home power system.
- Plan recharge and expansion: Check charging input compatibility and add an expansion battery only if the additional stored energy suits your needs and configuration.
- Verify the exact bundle: Review current specifications, included accessories, and installation requirements for the precise model and package you intend to use.
