Atlassian said AI did not directly replace the customer service and support workers it cut in July 2025. The company attributed the 150 job cuts to lower support demand after improvements to its platform and customer experience, while also acknowledging that AI was embedded in its contact form to help customers self-serve. The reports do not independently measure AI’s contribution to the reduction in support needs.

Did Atlassian cut customer service jobs because of AI?

Atlassian denied that AI was directly replacing the workers affected by the July 2025 cuts. Its stated explanation was that customers needed less help after improvements to the platform and customer experience. At the same time, the company said customers could use AI-enabled self-service through its contact form. Those are distinct claims: Atlassian denied direct replacement, but acknowledged AI in a support channel.

ITPro reported Atlassian’s statement that the changes left it with “more capacity than needed to deliver strong customer support.” The company added that customers could “self-service through the embedding of AI in our contact form,” but said the main reason was that customers needed less help with the product. ITPro’s August 1, 2025 report attributes that statement to Atlassian, not to a named spokesperson.

Cyber Daily also reported the company’s position: “We have made this decision after implementing improvements to the customer experience across our platform and tools, resulting in a significant reduction in support needs.” That is Atlassian’s account of the rationale, not an independent finding about what caused the job cuts. Cyber Daily’s July 31, 2025 report does not establish a measured causal link between AI and the redundancies.

How many Atlassian support jobs were cut in 2025?

The reported cuts came in two rounds. ITPro and Cyber Daily reported 150 customer service and support roles cut in July. In September, Atlassian cut a further 200 such roles in Europe, according to CX Dive, which reported a total of 350 across the two rounds.

Round Reported cuts Scope and source
July 2025 150 roles Customer service and support roles; reported by ITPro and Cyber Daily.
September 2025 200 additional roles Customer service and support roles in Europe; reported by CX Dive.
July and September 2025 combined 350 roles Cumulative total reported by CX Dive.

These are figures reported in news coverage of the company events, not independently audited labor statistics. ITPro described Atlassian as having a global workforce of 12,000 at the time; that is contemporaneous context from its report, not a separately verified denominator. July coverage said affected workers were in Australia, Canada, Germany, India, the UK and the US. Cyber Daily specifically confirmed Australian employees were affected.

What is known—and not known—about AI’s role?

The reports establish what Atlassian said: platform and customer-experience improvements reduced the need for support, and AI was embedded in its contact form as a self-service option. They do not quantify how often customers resolved issues through AI, identify which support tasks were automated, explain what happened to each affected function, or provide an independent estimate of jobs directly replaced by AI.

So the evidence supports a careful distinction, not a definitive causal verdict: Atlassian denied that AI directly replaced the workers and attributed the cuts to reduced support demand, while acknowledging AI-enabled self-service. The reporting does not independently establish how much, if at all, that AI feature contributed to the lower demand.

Were there more support cuts after July?

Yes. CX Dive reported another 200 European customer service and support cuts in September 2025, bringing the reported total across July and September to 350. This later round should be kept separate from the July announcement: it was an additional group of cuts, not part of the original 150.

Do later Atlassian restructuring figures refer to these cuts?

No. Atlassian’s Form 10-K for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2026 describes separate restructuring actions, including one affecting approximately 10% of the workforce. Those later disclosures concern different actions and should not be added to the 350 support roles reported cut in 2025. Atlassian’s fiscal 2026 Form 10-K is the source for that later restructuring context.
