The dashboard feature sends a PIN to the mobile number in your account’s Mobile field; the API flow is started and confirmed by your application’s backend.
Routee account 2FA and the 2Step API are different features
Dashboard 2FA adds a verification step when you sign in to go.routee.net. Routee’s 2Step product is for developers: an application requests an OTP for a user, then confirms the code the user enters. Enabling dashboard 2FA does not configure the API, and using 2Step does not protect your Routee dashboard login. Routee documentation
How to enable Routee dashboard 2FA
- Open User Settings in your Routee account and enable 2 Factor Authentication.
- Make sure the account’s Mobile field contains the number where you want to receive login PINs. Routee says this feature uses Mobile, not the separate Phone number field.
- Update the settings, confirm the setup, and save the backup PINs Routee displays in a secure place. Routee’s setup guide documents four backup PINs. Routee 2FA setup guide
What happens when you sign in or lose access to your phone?
On later dashboard logins, Routee sends a verification PIN to the registered mobile device. The guide allows three attempts to enter the correct PIN. If you cannot access the phone, choose Try backup pin and enter one of the saved backup PINs.
Using a backup PIN resets dashboard 2FA. You will need to enable it again afterward; Routee notes that you may use a new mobile number when setting it up again. Routee 2FA setup guide

How an application sends and verifies an OTP with 2Step
The 2Step lifecycle is for an application’s own users—for example, during login, signup, password reset, or a high-risk transaction. Your backend starts a verification, keeps its tracking ID, and submits the user’s code for confirmation. Routee 2Step overview
1. Get an access token on the server
Routee Connect requests require a Bearer access token. Routee documents obtaining one with OAuth 2.0 client credentials: exchange your application ID and secret for a short-lived token, then attach that token to API calls. Keep both the application secret and access token on the server; do not place the secret in browser or mobile-client code. Routee authentication documentation

2. Start a verification
Send POST https://connect.routee.net/2step with the access token and the request’s delivery method, recipient, and message template. The template must contain @@pin, which Routee replaces with the generated code. For SMS, format the recipient with a plus sign and country code.
Routee documents optional settings for code lifetime in seconds, maximum confirmation retries, PIN digit count, sender ID, template country, and India DLT restrictions. 3. Save the tracking ID and handle the response
A successful initiation response includes a trackingId, pending status, expiry time, and retry information. Store the tracking ID so your backend can confirm the user’s answer or retrieve the verification status. Routee also documents status retrieval and cancellation as lifecycle operations. 4. Confirm the code the user entered
When the user submits the numeric PIN, send it to the confirmation endpoint for that tracking ID. A successful confirmation returns status Verified. Incorrect answers increase the attempt count, and an expired verification cannot be confirmed; Routee documents a 400 response for wrong or expired answers. Routee 2Step confirmation documentation

Implementation boundaries to keep in mind
- Keep the two flows separate: dashboard settings control your Routee account login; 2Step endpoints serve OTP checks inside your application.
- Keep credentials server-side: the documented Connect flow uses a Bearer token obtained with client credentials, so protect the application secret and token from client-side exposure.
- Plan around expiry and retry limits: retain the tracking ID, respect the verification’s expiry and retry information, and handle unsuccessful or expired confirmation responses.
- Confirm channel details for your use case: Routee’s overview mentions Telegram, Viber, and Failover, but channel availability, regional coverage, and delivery pricing are not established here as universal. Consult Routee’s current documentation for your account and destination.
