Paid passes and store purchases add Champions, gear, and upgrade resources that can help develop a roster faster, but the official information cited here does not establish a spending requirement or quantify how quickly a free player can reach later milestones.
What free players can earn
The Google Play listing describes a free-to-download game built around collecting, upgrading, and deploying Champions, dragons, and weapons, with campaign play, events, solo play, and PvP. It explicitly says purchases are optional.
Free Kingsroad rewards
For the Kingsroad season running September 14 through October 12, 2026, Zynga says players earn points by completing daily and weekly goals. The free track includes Common Champion Shards, Summoning Tokens, and other rewards. Each of the five daily goals awards 300 points, and each weekly goal awards 800 points. After Tier 50, players can earn a bonus chest for every additional 700 points. These are the publisher’s stated season rules, not a measurement of how long it takes players to reach a tier. Choosing campaign rewards
Zynga’s June 2026 roadmap says each campaign level now grants one focused reward type, allowing players to choose which currency to accumulate faster and spend energy accordingly. That gives players a way to direct campaign energy toward a resource they want; the roadmap does not specify how quickly a free player can reach particular campaign milestones. What spending adds
Goldroad and Elite Goldroad
The paid Goldroad pass adds rewards at the same tiers players reach on Kingsroad. Zynga’s September 2026 announcement lists 15 Legendary Champion Shards for the Night King on Goldroad. The Elite Goldroad upgrade adds further items, including tokens, Legendary Gear, Valyrian Essence, and Skill Books. The free and paid tracks therefore differ in their rewards; paying unlocks extra resources rather than being described as a prerequisite for advancing through the track. Store items and summoning
Zynga’s June 2026 roadmap says the enhanced in-game store lets players purchase Champion shards, Skill Books, gear, and iconic materials to expand and strengthen a roster. Summoning resources can matter when building a roster. In an announcement about summoning, Zynga acknowledged feedback that Summon Token prices felt high and described changes to shard quantities and availability. It also noted that larger banners make targeting a particular Champion harder. The clearest distinction is access versus pace: the game and its listed free Kingsroad rewards are available without buying a pass, while paid passes and store items provide additional resources that can speed or broaden roster development. A May 2025 App Store reviewer reported advancing and obtaining Champions without spending, while saying payment builds an account faster. That is one player’s experience, not evidence of a typical free-player timeline. App Store reviews

The official announcements do not give a time-to-milestone comparison for free and paying players. They also do not establish whether a non-paying player can reach every late-game target on a preferred schedule or how free and paying players compare at the top of PvP. So it is fair to say you can progress without paying; it is not supported to promise that free progress is effortless or that spending is required to compete.
