To self-host fonts, images, and JavaScript reliably, make sure each deployed URL resolves to the intended file, the server returns a usable response and headers, and the browser’s origin and Content Security Policy rules permit it. A file existing on your server is only the first step: a wrong path, MIME type, CORS setting, or CSP directive can still stop the browser from using it.
Start by checking every asset request
Before changing code or policy, make an inventory of the font, image, and script URLs requested by the page. In your browser’s developer tools, open the Network panel and inspect each request’s status, final URL after redirects, response headers, and origin. Use the Console to spot CSP, CORS, MIME-type, and network errors.
Check that paths match the production deployment, not just your local setup. A different base path, letter case, or deployment directory can make an otherwise valid URL fail. Also confirm that the response is the intended asset rather than an HTML error page or application fallback.
Self-host fonts with matching declarations and permissions
Declare each local font with @font-face and point its src to the font’s deployed URL. Keep the declared family, weight, and style aligned with the font file you intend the browser to use. If a font falls back to another typeface, check the URL and response, the @font-face declaration, and the site’s font policy.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
In a Content Security Policy (CSP), font-src controls where fonts loaded with @font-face may come from. For same-origin files, 'self' is an available source expression. If you serve fonts from a different origin, that server may need to grant the page CORS access; web fonts are among the resource types for which CORS can matter.
If you preload a font, confirm that the page needs it early. MDN’s example uses rel="preload", as="font", a font type, and crossorigin. Preloading a font that the page does not use is generally wasteful. See MDN’s preload reference.

Serve images from the intended path and allow them in CSP
Use the image’s deployed URL and check its status and response if it disappears. The CSP directive img-src controls which sources are allowed to provide images. A policy change can therefore block images even when their files are reachable.
Displaying a cross-origin image and reading its pixel data through a canvas are different cases. If script code needs to read canvas pixels from a cross-origin image, check the relevant CORS permissions as well as the image URL and CSP rule. Allow only the sources required for the behavior your page actually uses.

Make sure self-hosted JavaScript is served as JavaScript
Serve script files with the JavaScript media type text/javascript. If the response includes X-Content-Type-Options: nosniff, browsers block a script response with an invalid JavaScript MIME type. A common diagnostic trap is a script URL that returns an HTML not-found page or application fallback instead of JavaScript: inspect both the response body and its Content-Type.
The CSP directive script-src controls permitted script sources. If a script request succeeds but the code does not run, check its response, MIME type, nosniff behavior, and CSP permission. Avoid broadening the policy just to suppress an error; identify the blocked resource and why the page needs it.

Use CSP in report-only mode before enforcing changes
Fonts, images, and scripts have distinct CSP controls: font-src, img-src, and script-src. Test a changed policy with the Content-Security-Policy-Report-Only header before enforcing it, then review the reported violations and permit only the sources the page needs. MDN recommends strict nonce- or hash-based script policies where practical. See MDN’s CSP guide.
Keep third-party scripts only with a clear integrity check
If a JavaScript library remains hosted on a CDN, Subresource Integrity (SRI) can require the browser to check fetched bytes against a known hash. The hash must match the exact file being served. SRI checks integrity; it does not make a script trustworthy if the pinned content itself is malicious.

For cross-origin SRI, the resource server must allow CORS and the markup must include crossorigin. For a public resource that does not use credentials, crossorigin="anonymous" is commonly used. Use HTTPS for the resource. MDN explains the requirements in its SRI guide.
Preload only assets the page needs early
Preload is a hint for resources important early in rendering, not a general-purpose way to make every asset faster. MDN cautions that preloading a resource the page does not use is wasteful. For JavaScript modules, modulepreload hints that the browser should start downloading modules at higher priority. Inspect actual request behavior before adding speculative loads; the guidance does not establish a universal performance gain. See MDN’s speculative loading guide.
Choose same-origin hosting or a CDN based on your setup
Neither same-origin hosting nor a CDN is universally faster, more secure, or cheaper. The right choice depends on delivery needs and how you manage deployment, caching, CORS, and CSP.
Quick Recap
| Consideration | Same-origin hosting | Cross-origin CDN |
|---|---|---|
| Origin permissions | Can simplify origin permissions for same-origin assets. | May require explicit CORS configuration for resources such as fonts and cross-origin SRI scripts. |
| CSP maintenance | Can simplify policy configuration when assets come from the site’s own origin. | Requires policy rules that permit the external resource source. |
| Deployment and caching | Assess against the site’s deployment and cache workflow. | Assess against the site’s deployment and cache workflow. |
| Speed, security, and cost | Not established as universally better; measure or assess for your site and configuration. | Not established as universally better; measure or assess for your site and configuration. |
Diagnose common loading failures
- Font falls back: Check the font URL and response, the family/weight/style in
@font-face, CSPfont-src, and CORS if the font is cross-origin. - Image is missing: Check the URL, response status, and CSP
img-src. If code reads canvas pixels, check cross-origin permissions for that use. - Script downloads but does not run: Inspect the response body and
Content-Type; confirm the response is JavaScript, then checknosniffand CSPscript-src. - Integrity-checked external script is blocked: Confirm the hash matches the exact file, the resource uses HTTPS, and the server supports CORS for SRI.
- A CSP change blocks assets: Test with report-only mode, review violations, and add only the source the page requires.
