Then clean and dry the screen, restart the iPhone, and disconnect wired accessories. If the problem remains with the protector off, follow Apple’s checks and arrange service if needed.
Test whether the protector is involved
- Remove the case and screen protector temporarily. Apple recommends removing both when a screen is too sensitive or responds intermittently. This is an isolation test, not proof that every protector causes touch problems. Test the display before putting either back on. Apple’s troubleshooting steps cover both items.
- Clean and dry the display. Check for debris or water and retest with the screen clean and dry, as Apple recommends.
- Restart the iPhone. After it starts again, check whether taps and swipes register normally.
- Disconnect Lightning or USB-C accessories. Unplug wired accessories and test the display again. If touch works after disconnecting one, Apple recommends trying another outlet, cable, or charger.
Where practical, test after each step so you can tell which change affected the response. If touch still fails with the protector removed, do not assume the protector is the cause.
What to do if touch works without the protector
If the bare display responds normally but the problem returns with the protector installed, the protector may be involved. Choose a replacement made for your exact iPhone model and follow its installation instructions. Apple does not endorse a particular third-party protector, and the available guidance does not establish a thickness threshold or guarantee that replacing it will solve touch problems.
Touch settings are not the first fix
Touch Accommodations, at Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Touch Accommodations, can change how iPhone recognizes taps, swipes, repeated touches, and touch-and-hold gestures. Apple describes these as accessibility controls, not as a fix for a screen protector interfering with touch. Don’t enable them by default for this problem.

When to seek iPhone service
If touch remains unreliable after you remove the case and protector, clean and dry the display, restart, and disconnect wired accessories, Apple says service may be needed. Contact Apple Support or an Apple Authorised Service Provider.
Tell the technician if the display has been replaced before. Apple notes that a non-genuine display may have Multi-Touch problems, including areas that do not respond or degraded touch performance. Parts and Service History is available on iPhone 11 models and later, except iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation); availability and labels depend on the iPhone model and software version.
