Report the specific account when someone is pretending to be you, and report the individual post or video when the content itself is abusive or misleading. A realistic AI-generated face or voice may also need a platform’s privacy complaint route; non-consensual intimate imagery and scams can require separate steps. Reporting asks the platform to review the material—it does not guarantee removal.
Identify what you need to report
Choose the route based on the problem, not just the technology used to create the content. An impersonation account misleads people about who is behind it. A deepfake is altered or generated audio, video, or imagery; it may appear on an account that is not itself impersonating you. Some incidents involve both.
- Fake account: Report the profile or channel for impersonation.
- Specific deepfake or other post: Report the individual item under the closest applicable content category.
- Your recognizable face or voice in realistic synthetic media: Look for a privacy or likeness complaint in addition to any ordinary content report.
- Non-consensual intimate imagery (NCII): Use the platform’s reporting route and check whether local law provides a separate legal-reporting process.
- Scam impersonating a government agency or trusted organization: Report the account or content, and verify the claim through the organization’s independently located official contact details.
Before opening a report form, note the platform, username, direct link to the account or post, and date you saw it. Provide only information requested by the official form. Avoid publicly confronting or reposting the impersonator’s content, which can draw further attention to it.
Report impersonation and deepfakes on YouTube
Report a fake channel
YouTube prohibits misleading, unauthorized impersonation, including AI used to copy a person’s voice or likeness. Examples include synthetic speech presented with false metadata as though the person really said it, or a likeness used to falsely imply an endorsement. Use YouTube’s impersonation policy and reporting guidance to report the channel.

Report a specific video or Short
Report the individual video or Short and select the reason that best fits. YouTube says a channel report reviews channel features; it does not review every video on that channel. Report specific content separately when it may violate policy. A report is reviewed, not automatically removed. Follow YouTube’s reporting instructions.
Use the privacy complaint route for a realistic synthetic likeness
If altered or synthetic content looks or sounds like you, YouTube provides a privacy complaint process. The identifiable person or their legal representative must submit the complaint. YouTube says it considers factors including whether the material is synthetic and disclosed, how realistic and uniquely identifiable it is, and whether it is parody, satire, or of public interest. Report impersonation and AI-generated content on TikTok
Report a deepfake post
For AI-generated content that violates TikTok’s Community Guidelines, open or press and hold the post, tap Report, choose Misinformation, then Deepfakes, synthetic media, and manipulated media, and submit. On the web, use the post’s More options menu and follow the same category path. TikTok’s AI-content guidance covers AI-created or AI-modified images, video, and audio; the applicable policy and report category determine how a report is reviewed. Report an account pretending to be someone
Report the profile, choose Pretending to Be Someone, and indicate whether it is impersonating you or someone else. TikTok also provides separate online forms for the US and other locations. The described US process can request valid identification; the non-US process follows a different category path. Check the live form’s requirements before sending identity documents. Report impersonation on X
If you or your organization is being impersonated, X directs you or an authorized representative to its Help Center form. A bystander can report the account from its profile, and X says an account is not required to submit an impersonation report. X investigates valid reports and says a violating account may be suspended or asked to change its account. Use X’s current impersonation reporting guidance to check the form requirements. Brand or trademark disputes may require a different complaint category from personal impersonation.
Report abuse, deepfakes, or NCII on Snapchat
Snapchat recommends reporting an offending account or item in the app: press and hold it, tap Report, and follow the prompts. Some jurisdictions, including the EU and UK, may offer additional ways to report illegal content. For NCII, Snapchat describes a separate legal-reporting form where the jurisdiction requires one; it recommends an in-app report as well to identify the specific material. Snapchat says reports are reviewed against its Terms and Community Guidelines, and its safety team may ask for more details. A submitted report cannot be withdrawn. Its report follow-up guidance explains what to expect after submission.

If someone is pretending to represent a government agency or another trusted organization to solicit money or information, report the account and the specific content to the platform. In the US, the FTC’s government-imposter guidance advises finding the agency’s real phone number on its own website and calling to check the story. This is US consumer guidance, not a universal remedy; verify the current FTC reporting destination before using it.

What to expect after submitting a report
A report requests a review under the platform’s rules; it does not automatically take content down. YouTube explicitly says reports are not automatically removed, and Snapchat says its safety team reviews reports and may request more information. Other outcomes depend on the platform’s current policies and its assessment of the material. Keep the account and post links you recorded so you can identify the exact item if the platform requests details.
