A free trial will usually turn into a paid subscription if its terms say it renews automatically or converts to a paid plan unless you cancel. Before signing up, find the trial end date, the first charge and its billing interval, and the exact cancellation deadline and route. If any of those details are missing or unclear, do not enter your payment information until you can verify them.

Look for automatic renewal or conversion language

On the offer page and checkout screen, look for phrases such as “automatically renews,” “converts to a paid subscription,” or “you’ll be charged unless you cancel.” Those terms mean the company may charge the payment method on file when the trial ends if you do not cancel in time. A trial is not necessarily free of all charges: check for shipping, setup, or other fees as well.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) advises consumers to find the terms that explain what they are agreeing to, how long the trial lasts, and how and when to cancel. It warns that unclear terms, pre-checked enrollment boxes, and cancellation policies that are hard to find can be reasons to avoid signing up. Read the terms before entering card details, check the company and varied customer reviews, and skip offers whose important terms you cannot find or understand. FTC consumer guide: free trials, auto-renewals, and negative-option subscriptions.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  • Trial duration: How many days or months does it last, and when does the clock start?
  • First charge: What date or event triggers the first payment? Is it at the end of the trial, or earlier?
  • Amount and billing interval: What is the amount actually charged, and is it billed monthly, annually, or on another schedule? A monthly-equivalent price can obscure a larger charge collected for a longer period.
  • Renewal terms: Does the subscription renew automatically after the first paid period, and at what price?
  • Cancellation deadline and route: How far ahead of the renewal must you cancel, and which account or platform must you use?
  • Other costs and enrollment choices: Are there shipping or other fees, and has a box already been checked to enroll you in something?

If you are comparing two offers, compare their trial lengths, first post-trial charges, billing intervals, cancellation deadlines and routes, and fees or pre-checked options. Do not compare monthly-equivalent prices alone if one offer collects payment for a longer period upfront.

Find out who bills you and where to cancel

The service’s name may not be the name of the company processing the payment. A subscription may be billed by the service itself, an app store, or another provider. Check the checkout details, the account used to make the purchase, any receipt, and your payment statement. The billing provider matters because you generally need to cancel through the account or platform that manages the subscription—not simply delete the app or stop using the service.

If you signed up through Apple

On an iPhone, go to Settings > your name > Subscriptions and select the subscription. Apple’s support page also gives cancellation paths for other Apple devices and the web. Apple says to cancel a trial at least 24 hours before it ends if you do not want it to renew. If you cannot find the subscription, check your email for an Apple receipt or invoice and make sure you are signed in with the Apple Account used to subscribe. If there is no Apple receipt, check your payment statement to identify the billing company and contact that company. Apple Support: Cancel a subscription from Apple (published September 29, 2026).

If you signed up through Google Play

Use the Google Play account that made the purchase to find and cancel a subscription. Google Play’s developer policy requires clear disclosure of the subscription price, billing frequency, automatic renewal, and other material terms. For trials, developers should explain the duration, when the subscription converts, the post-trial cost, and how to cancel. Google Play also requires an easy-to-use online cancellation method for subscriptions sold in apps. Google Play Subscriptions policy.

Google Play says access typically continues through the paid period after cancellation, and that refunds are not generally provided for the current billing period. Country-specific law or a developer’s own policy may differ. These are Google Play platform details, not universal rules for subscriptions billed directly by a service or through another provider.

If the service bills you directly or through another provider

Follow the cancellation instructions in the service account or terms, and use the account that manages the subscription. If those instructions do not work, contact the billing company using a contact route you can verify independently. The FTC advises against relying on phone numbers or links in suspicious renewal messages.

Cancel before the stated cutoff and keep proof

  1. Set a reminder as soon as you enroll. Put the cancellation deadline—not just the trial’s final day—in your phone calendar or another calendar. Allow enough time to meet any stated advance-notice requirement.
  2. Use the correct billing account. Open the account or platform that manages the subscription and follow its cancellation steps. If the subscription is missing, check receipts and payment statements to identify the account or company responsible for billing.
  3. Confirm that cancellation went through. Look for an on-screen confirmation, a changed subscription status, or a confirmation email. If you submit a cancellation request by another method, keep a copy of the request and any response.
  4. Check for later charges. Review your card or bank statements after cancellation. If the company continues billing after you canceled, contact the provider. If a charge was unauthorized, contact your card issuer to dispute it.

These steps are practical safeguards, not a claim that every provider has the same deadline, cancellation route, access policy, or refund rules. Follow the terms for the specific trial and the rules that apply where you live.

What US federal rule changes do—and do not—mean

In October 2024, the FTC announced an amended Negative Option Rule addressing disclosures, informed consent, and cancellation mechanisms. The agency said it received nearly 70 consumer complaints per day on average in 2024, compared with 42 complaints per day in 2021. Those figures describe complaints reported by the FTC for the stated years; they do not establish the likelihood of a charge for any particular trial. FTC announcement, October 2024.
