To connect a JBL Flip, turn it on, press its Bluetooth button, then open Bluetooth settings on your phone and select the matching JBL Flip name. To disconnect without deleting the saved pairing, disconnect it in the phone’s Bluetooth settings or switch off Bluetooth; do not choose Forget or Unpair unless you want to pair again.
Connect your JBL Flip to a phone
The detailed pairing sequence below is shown in JBL’s Flip 6 Quick Start Guide. The device name displayed in the guide is “JBL Flip 6.” Other Flip generations may use different controls or behave differently, so check the guide for your model if these steps do not match your speaker.
- Turn on the speaker.
- Press the Bluetooth button on the speaker to start pairing mode.
- Open Bluetooth settings on your phone and switch Bluetooth on.
- In the available-device list, tap the entry matching your speaker—for example, “JBL Flip 6” for that model.
Disconnect without removing the pairing
For a routine disconnect, use the phone’s Bluetooth settings to disconnect the JBL Flip, or turn off Bluetooth on the phone. The saved pairing remains available for a later connection. Do not select “Forget” or “Unpair” for an ordinary disconnect: JBL says either action means you will need to repeat the pairing steps. If the JBL Flip does not appear in Bluetooth settings
Make the speaker discoverable
JBL’s Flip pairing support article says to press the round power button again for three seconds, until the light flashes blue and red. JBL describes this as deactivating an active Bluetooth connection so the Flip becomes visible to a phone or tablet for pairing. Button behavior can vary by model, so use your model’s instructions if the light or controls differ.

Check whether another phone is connected
If the Flip was paired before but does not reconnect automatically, select it manually in your phone’s Bluetooth settings. JBL also advises checking whether another phone is already connected: disconnect the speaker from that phone or turn off Bluetooth on it, then try again.
Do not reset just to disconnect
JBL describes resetting as a drastic troubleshooting step that erases saved pairings. It is not a routine way to disconnect or reconnect; try the Bluetooth and visibility steps above first.
