To hide caller ID for outgoing calls from an iPhone, turn off Show My Caller ID in Settings > Apps > Phone. That setting stays in effect until you turn it back on, if your carrier supports it. By contrast, *67 is a per-call code in the U.S. context described by the FCC: dial it before a number to request that your number not be sent for that call.
How to hide your number on iPhone
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apps, then Phone.
- Tap Show My Caller ID.
- Turn the setting off.
This controls outgoing caller ID while the setting remains off, provided your carrier allows it. Apple documents this route in its iPhone Phone settings guide.
How *67 differs from the iPhone setting

The FCC’s DA 98-94 says: “Under these rules, applicable only to interstate calls, callers dialing *67 before dialing a particular phone number will prevent their CPN from being transmitted to the called party on a per-call basis.” The FCC also describes *67 and *82 in its privacy and blocking mechanisms guidance. These U.S.-specific materials are not a guarantee that the code works with every carrier or in every country; check your provider’s instructions for your line and location.
Why Show My Caller ID may be missing or dimmed
Apple says the setting can be unavailable or dimmed depending on carrier support. If you cannot change it, contact your network provider to ask whether caller-ID blocking is supported on your line. Apple’s caller ID instructions also direct customers to their provider when the control is unavailable.

Does hiding caller ID block incoming calls?
No. Turning off outgoing caller ID or using *67 affects what is sent when you place a call; it does not block people from calling your iPhone. Incoming call screening, silencing, identification, and blocking are separate controls documented by Apple in its guide to screening and blocking calls.
