Confirm you’re using a supported Xbox Cloud Gaming setup
This guide applies to Halo Infinite streamed through Xbox Cloud Gaming in a browser, not Halo installed and running locally on a Mac. Xbox’s December 2025 guide lists Macs running macOS 14.1.2 or later among supported devices and names Edge, Chrome, and Safari as browser options for play at xbox.com. Requirements and availability can change, so check Xbox Cloud Gaming and its current support information before troubleshooting further. Halo’s availability can vary by region, plan, and platform.
Halo Infinite is listed as a browser game with controller support. Xbox requires a compatible controller connected by Bluetooth or USB, but says compatibility is not guaranteed for every device. Check the game page for its controller-support indicator and consult Xbox’s controller compatibility information. If the browser or controller is unsupported, address that before diagnosing performance.
Fix a controller that isn’t working or keeps disconnecting
- Use an updated browser supported for Xbox Cloud Gaming: Edge, Chrome, or Safari. The sources do not establish that one of these browsers performs best in every setup.
- Check that the controller is on Xbox’s compatible list, then connect it to the Mac by Bluetooth or USB. Xbox supports both connection types; choose the one your controller supports and that the browser reliably recognizes.
- If inputs stop after the controller disconnects, reconnect one controller and test it before adding another input device. Halo Support documents a specific account-authorization issue associated with a controller disconnect followed by connecting a second input device; that does not explain every controller failure.
If the picture remains smooth while button presses are missed, focus first on controller compatibility and recognition rather than treating the symptom as stream stutter.

Reduce lag, stuttering, and a blurry stream
Xbox recommends an internet connection of at least 20 Mbps for stable cloud gaming and recommends wired Ethernet where possible. If Ethernet is impractical, Xbox identifies 5 GHz Wi-Fi as an option. The recommendation is not a guarantee: Xbox says performance also depends on connection, location, device, and other factors, so a speed-test result alone does not confirm that the route to the cloud stream is healthy.

For either option, compare what you see: a whole stream that freezes or stutters points toward the stream or connection, while missed inputs with otherwise smooth video point more toward controller recognition. Xbox’s reviewed guidance does not specify a latency threshold, so there is no supported ping number to use as a pass/fail test.

Use Halo’s diagnostics without mistaking them for stream measurements
Halo Infinite offers a Network Statistics display and an FPS counter. If these options are available in the streamed version you are playing, turn them on in Halo’s settings and observe them while the issue occurs. The Halo Infinite settings guide describes these display options.
The FPS counter is game-side information; it does not by itself measure end-to-end cloud-stream latency or prove that the stream path is healthy. Halo’s graphics options also depend on platform. Console Quality and Performance modes trade resolution against frame rate, while PC graphics settings are for PC gameplay. Those local PC settings are not a remedy for a Mac that is only receiving a cloud stream.

Check whether Halo Infinite is having a service problem
If Halo will not connect, shows Offline or Transitioning, or reports a server or lobby error, check Halo Support’s known issues and outage updates and Xbox service status before changing controller hardware. Halo Support identifies messages such as “Error: There was a problem with the Dedicated Server. Please try again.” and “Error: Unable to connect to the Halo Infinite Lobby Service.” as recognizable service symptoms. Its guidance notes that online-service outages can occur because of unforeseen technical issues.
If your home connection is working and the problem persists, report the exact error text and what happens—such as whether Halo remains Offline or the stream freezes—to Halo Support. Specific symptoms are more useful than simply reporting that the game is slow.

Apply game-specific workarounds only when they match your setup
Halo Support lists some PC-only performance issues, including AMD Radeon Anti-Lag hitches and problems associated with older AMD drivers. It also mentions PC background-recording issues. These are not established fixes for a Mac streaming Halo from the cloud. Do not change PC drivers, local graphics presets, or Anti-Lag settings unless you are actually playing on a PC and the documented issue matches your setup.
If your current controller is not on Xbox’s supported list, check that list before choosing a compatible Xbox controller; replacing a controller that is already supported is not a first troubleshooting step. Likewise, consider Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi equipment only if your current connection cannot use the recommended option. New networking hardware is not a guarantee of lower latency.
