V-Bucks are Fortnite’s in-game currency, used for digital items and Fortnite Passes. To get them safely, use Epic’s official purchase or redemption flow, check that a card matches your region and intended account, and secure that account with a unique password and multifactor authentication. A Fortnite gift card is not the same as a legacy V-Bucks card: it adds value to an Epic account balance that can cover a broader range of eligible purchases.

What can you buy with V-Bucks?

Epic says V-Bucks can be used to buy Fortnite Outfits, Pickaxes, Emotes, Wraps, and Fortnite Passes. The available items and offers can change in-game; the currency is for eligible Fortnite purchases, not a general cash balance. See Epic’s V-Bucks and card redemption page for its current description.

V-Bucks cards and Fortnite gift cards are different

A V-Bucks card is intended to add V-Bucks. A Fortnite gift card instead adds value to an Epic account balance, which Epic says can be used for eligible V-Bucks, Fortnite Crew and Packs, Epic Games Store games and add-ons, and creator content on fab.com. Check the card’s product description before buying so you know which kind of balance it provides. Epic introduced Fortnite gift cards on June 4, 2025; its announcement described a rollout to regions over the months ahead, so availability and terms may vary by country and change over time. Epic’s announcement listed U.S. gift-card denominations of $15, $30, $50, $100, or a custom amount from $15 to $150 at that time; these are not a guarantee of current availability or denominations in every region.

How to get and redeem V-Bucks safely

Buy through Epic’s official routes or from a retailer you can verify for your region. Avoid assuming a card sold online is authorized or compatible just because the listing uses Fortnite branding. Before purchase, check the card type, territory, seller, platform restrictions, and the account that will receive the value.

#1 Best Overall
Fortnite eGift Card
  • Redeemable on accounts in the United States and in U.S. Dollars.
  • Gift card must be redeemed at EpicGames.com/redeem. This gift card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly on a console device (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, etc.)
  • If you play Fortnite experiences on a console device, you need to link your Epic Games account to your console account(s) so items purchased at Fortnite.com/item-shop appear across all of your linked accounts
  • Requires internet connection, valid Epic account and prior acceptance of the terms
  • Redemption: Online
  1. Confirm the Epic account. Sign in to the account that should receive the balance. Make sure it is the correct account before redeeming; Epic says V-Bucks cannot be transferred later.
  2. Use the redemption route for the card type. For a Fortnite gift card, scan its QR code and follow the link, or go to epicgames.com/redeem and add the card value to your Epic account balance. For a legacy V-Bucks card, follow the separate redemption flow on Epic’s V-Bucks card page.
  3. Check the result before spending. Confirm that the value or V-Bucks appear on the intended account and that the selected platform can use them. Keep the card and purchase details until redemption is complete.

A valid Epic account is required. If a card’s instructions or eligibility differ from these general steps, follow the current official instructions for that card and region.

Check region and platform rules first

Epic says region-flagged cards are locked to the territory shown and require a matching Epic or platform account region. A card bought for one territory may not work on an account set to another. Do not buy a cross-region card on the assumption that changing devices or accounts will solve the mismatch.

Epic’s Shared Wallet support allows V-Bucks from cards to be used across supported platforms including PlayStation, Xbox, PC, mobile, and cloud gaming services. There is an important Nintendo exception: V-Bucks received on Nintendo devices by redeeming a V-Bucks card can only be used on Nintendo devices. Check the current platform details on Epic’s card page before choosing where to redeem.

Know the card and balance limits

  • No transfers: Epic says V-Bucks cannot be transferred between accounts. Redeem only after verifying the recipient account.
  • No refund for unused V-Bucks: Epic says it does not offer refunds for unused V-Bucks.
  • Card terms: Epic’s V-Bucks card page says the full face value is deducted at redemption and linked to a single account for the selected device. It also says cards have no use fees or expiration date, but lost, stolen, destroyed, or unauthorized-used cards will not be replaced. Confirm the current terms for your card and region before purchase.
  • Disputes can affect purchases: Epic warns that a chargeback may lead to removal of items associated with the disputed payment and may prevent the related card from being used in Epic products. After two or more chargebacks, an account may be blocked from purchases across Epic products for up to one year. See Epic’s chargeback policy.

Protect your account and avoid free-V-Bucks scams

Enable multifactor authentication (MFA), choose a password you do not use elsewhere, and do not share it. Epic’s account-security guidance states, “Epic Games will never ask for your password,” including when someone claims to represent Epic. With MFA enabled, a sign-in may require a one-time code the first time after setup, on a new device, after 30 days without signing in, or after browser cookies are cleared. Follow Epic’s account-security guidance to protect the account.

Fortnite Physical Gift Card
  • An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
  • If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
  • The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
  • Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.
  • Redemption: Online

Be wary of offers promising free V-Bucks or gift cards in exchange for credentials, surveys, downloads, or access through unofficial redemption pages. Epic has specifically identified Creative islands promising free V-Bucks gift cards as a scam example in its Support-A-Creator update. Use official Epic redemption pages, and do not enter your password on a page reached through an unsolicited offer.
