Canon’s EOS M50 specifications do not state a weather-resistance rating, so you should not assume the camera is protected against rain or dust. For a Canon comparison point, the EOS R7 is described as dust- and drip-resistant—but Canon explicitly says it is not waterproof. The R7 also uses a different lens mount, so an M50 owner may need a new lens plan as well as a new body.
Does the Canon EOS M50 have weather sealing?
Canon’s EOS M50 support specifications identify it as an APS-C camera with an approximately 22.3 × 14.9 mm sensor and approximately 24.1 effective megapixels. They list EF-M lenses, plus EF and EF-S lenses used with the EF-EOS M adapter. The reviewed specifications do not list a weather-resistance rating. That means Canon does not specify a rating there; it does not establish a precise threshold for when moisture or dust could damage the camera.
If you are asking, “Can I use my Canon EOS M50 in the rain?”, the safest practical answer is not to treat it as a weather-sealed camera. Avoid exposing it to rain, splashes, blowing dust, or other conditions where water or debris could enter the body or lens. A cover can reduce exposure, but it does not turn the camera into a weather-rated system.

What does Canon mean by dust- and drip-resistant?
Canon describes the EOS R7 as designed to be dust- and drip-resistant, but its handling precautions set clear limits: “The camera is not waterproof and cannot be used underwater.” Canon advises keeping covers firmly closed and attaching the shoe cover to maximize resistance. It also warns that dust, dirt, water, or salt may still get inside.

- Improved Dual Pixel CMOS AF and Eye Detection AF
- 24.1 Megapixel (APS-C) CMOS Sensor with ISO 100-25600 (H: 51200)
- 4K UHD 24p and HD 120p for Slow Motion
- Built-in OLED EVF with Touch and Drag AF
In other words, dust- and drip-resistant is a design and care description, not a promise that every camera-and-lens combination will remain dry in every outdoor situation. Canon’s cited material does not provide an ingress-protection rating or a quantified rain-survival duration for either the M50 or R7, so there is no sound basis here for assigning either camera a guaranteed safe exposure time.

Will your M50 lenses work on the R7?
No. The EOS R7 has an RF mount, and Canon excludes EF-M lenses from the R7’s compatible lenses. The EF-EOS R adapter allows EF and EF-S lenses to be used on an EOS R body; it does not make EF-M lenses compatible.

- 24.1 megapixel (aps-c) cmos sensor with iso 100-25600 (h: 51200).
- digic 8 image processor with auto lighting optimizer.
- improved dual pixel cmos af and eye detection af (still/movie servo af support).
- 4k uhd 24p and hd 120p for slow motion.
- vari-angle touchscreen lcd convenient for vlogging and various composition.
Before treating an R7 as a straightforward body upgrade, list the lenses you own and identify which are EF-M versus EF or EF-S. Include the cost and practical consequences of replacing EF-M lenses—or keeping the M50 as a separate system—in your decision. Canon describes dust- and moisture-resistant construction on some lenses, but says that construction does not guarantee complete exclusion of water and dust and depends on the lens being attached to a body. Lens construction does not establish weather protection for the M50 body.

Keep using the M50 when conditions are controlled
If your outdoor photography is in dry conditions, or you can keep the camera protected between shots, the M50 may still suit your needs. Its specifications simply do not supply a Canon weather-resistance rating, so plan to shield it rather than relying on sealing.

Consider the R7 when you want a Canon body with stated dust and drip resistance
The R7 is the relevant Canon comparison if dust- and drip-resistant construction is a priority. Read that claim alongside Canon’s non-waterproof warning, its care instructions, and the possibility that EF-M lenses must be replaced. The manufacturer’s documentation supports a qualitative comparison, not a quantified guarantee of survival in particular weather.
Choose based on the whole system and the conditions you face
Compare the total system you would carry and pay for, not just the body: lens compatibility, any adapter needs, replacement lenses, weight, and how exposed your usual locations are. The cited Canon sources establish the R7’s weight figures above, but do not establish current local prices or a universal best choice. For either camera, a forecast involving sustained rain, spray, salt, or heavy dust is a reason to use more protection or avoid exposing the equipment.

Does an accessory make the M50 weather-sealed?
No accessory cited here changes the M50’s stated weather-resistance specification. Canon’s ER-SC2 shoe cover is for compatible EOS R7/R10 multifunction shoes; it is not an M50 seal or rain cover. The EF-EOS R adapter is for using EF and EF-S lenses on an EOS R body, not for attaching EF-M lenses.
