Start by checking that your PC meets the game’s requirements, then update Windows and your graphics driver, verify the game files in the launcher you use, and test settings one change at a time. These steps help isolate launch failures, crashes, low frame rates, and intermittent stutter; they are diagnostic, not a guaranteed fix for every PC.
Before changing anything, note your Windows version, CPU, GPU and VRAM, RAM, storage type, graphics-driver version, storefront, graphics settings, and the scene or action that triggers the problem. That baseline makes it easier to identify what changed and to report a repeatable issue.
Check whether your PC meets the requirements
Steam lists Windows 11 64-bit, 16 GB RAM, DirectX 12, and an SSD as requirements. Its minimum CPU tier is an Intel Core i5-8500 or AMD Ryzen 5 3500, with a GeForce GTX 1660 6GB or Radeon RX 5500 XT 8GB. Steam’s recommended tier is an Intel Core i7-8700 or AMD Ryzen 5 5500, with a GeForce RTX 2060 Super 8GB or Radeon RX 6600 8GB; both tiers list 16 GB RAM. See Steam’s Resident Evil Requiem requirements.
| Steam tier | CPU | GPU | Memory and storage | Listed target |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum | Intel Core i5-8500 or AMD Ryzen 5 3500 | GeForce GTX 1660 6GB or Radeon RX 5500 XT 8GB | 16 GB RAM; SSD | 1080p at 30 fps, using upscaling from 640p native |
| Recommended | Intel Core i7-8700 or AMD Ryzen 5 5500 | GeForce RTX 2060 Super 8GB or Radeon RX 6600 8GB | 16 GB RAM; SSD | 1080p at 60 fps, using upscaling from 720p native |
Steam warns that frame rate may drop under high processing load at either tier. Meeting minimum requirements is not a promise of stable performance in every scene. If your PC meets minimum but not recommended specifications, reduce graphics settings before considering hardware changes. If the game is installed on a hard drive, moving it to an SSD addresses a stated requirement, but does not by itself diagnose crashes, driver trouble, or a GPU-limited frame rate.

Update Windows and your graphics driver
- Install Windows updates: Open Windows Settings and check Windows Update for available updates, then restart if prompted.
- Install the current driver for your GPU: Get it from the appropriate GPU vendor—NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel—and follow that vendor’s installation instructions. Driver releases and fixes change over time, so use current release information rather than relying on an old driver number.
- Restart Windows after installing the graphics driver, then test the game again under the same conditions.
Capcom recommends current Windows updates and graphics drivers. If an ordinary driver update does not help, Capcom describes a clean driver installation as a next step. Its guidance refers to Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU), a third-party utility, not Capcom software; use it only if you are comfortable with that process, follow the utility’s own instructions, and reinstall the appropriate vendor driver afterward. Capcom’s steps are in its PC troubleshooting guidance and official Steam troubleshooting thread.
For a specific vendor case, Intel’s article last reviewed June 25, 2026, identifies low performance with Intel Arc A-series graphics as a known issue: Arc A770 users may see 40–50 FPS rather than the expected 60+ FPS at 1440p with maximum graphics settings. That report is limited to that GPU and configuration; Intel’s cited article does not provide a fix. It does not establish the cause of other low-FPS cases. See Intel’s Arc A-series performance note.

Verify files and turn off compatibility mode
Use the repair or file-verification feature in the storefront that owns your installation. Do not use paths or instructions for a different launcher.
Epic Games Store
Open your Epic Games library, find Resident Evil Requiem, and use the game’s menu to select the verification option. Capcom’s Epic troubleshooting instructions also recommend disabling Windows compatibility mode for the game executable if it is enabled.

Steam
Use Steam’s installed-game properties to verify the integrity of the game files. Capcom’s official Steam troubleshooting thread also advises disabling compatibility mode for re9.exe if it is enabled. Locate the executable in your own Steam installation rather than assuming it is in an Epic folder.
Compatibility mode is a Windows setting on the executable: right-click the game’s executable, open Properties, select the Compatibility tab, and clear any enabled compatibility option. If the game still fails to start, restore only settings you changed and continue with the security check and evidence collection below.

Check security software without disabling protection
Capcom says false-positive detections by security software can contribute to launch problems or frame-rate drops. Check the security product’s detection history or quarantine for the game or launcher files. If a relevant file was blocked, follow the product’s instructions to restore it and add only the specific game and launcher files or folders to its exclusion list. If an exclusion already exists, Capcom suggests removing and re-adding that entry.
Do not turn off antivirus or firewall protection wholesale, and do not exclude unrelated drives or broad folders. Use the installation and launcher you actually have; Epic and Steam installations do not necessarily share file paths.

Separate low frame rate from intermittent stutter
A consistently low frame rate and occasional hitching are different symptoms. Record which one you see, when it occurs, and whether it changes by scene. Then reduce load in small, reversible steps: lower graphics settings, test the same scene again, and record the result before changing another option. If performance improves, you have evidence that the tested load or setting matters on your system; it does not prove that the same adjustment will help every player.
- Low FPS throughout play: Compare your CPU and GPU with Steam’s tiers, confirm the game is on an SSD, and reduce graphics settings if your system is below recommended specifications.
- Stutter or brief freezes: Note whether it happens during a particular scene, action, or after a setting change. Test one graphics change at a time so the result can be attributed more clearly.
- Failure only at a particular configuration: Record resolution, graphics preset, upscaling options, and any advanced features in use, then retest with a lower load.
The official guidance cited here does not establish one universal graphics setting that fixes stuttering. NVIDIA’s March 2, 2026 Game Ready announcement discusses support for path tracing, DLSS Ray Reconstruction, and DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation on RTX 50-series hardware, and notes that an earlier driver issue had been resolved with a newer release. Those are dated release details, not a universal troubleshooting prescription; check NVIDIA’s current driver release information for later changes.
Preserve crash evidence and report repeatable problems
If the game crashes repeatedly, keep the report closest in time to the crash. Capcom says the CrashReport folder usually contains timestamped ZIP files. Do not delete the relevant report before you have recorded its location and made a copy.
