Instagram Edits Ideas is better suited to collecting inspiration and getting personalized suggestions; TikTok AI Outline is better suited to turning a prompt or searched topic into a structured video draft. They serve different stages of planning, and the available official announcements do not establish that either produces better ideas or improves video performance.
What Instagram Edits Ideas does
Meta describes the Ideas tab in Edits as a place where saved Instagram Reels and audio sit alongside sticky notes for ideas. Edits also includes an inspiration feed personalized to what a creator posts, comment summaries, and weekly generated ideas. That makes it a natural fit if you gather examples as you browse and want a workspace to revisit them. Meta does not explain how the weekly ideas are generated or say they are based on trend searches. Meta’s April 2026 Edits update describes these features.
What TikTok AI Outline does
AI Outline starts with either a prompt you enter or a highly searched topic selected from Creator Search Insights. It generates video titles, hashtags, hooks, and an outline divided into six customizable parts. TikTok says creators can revise the title, hook, and script idea before recording. This workflow is more direct when you already know the subject and need help shaping it into a draft. See TikTok’s October 28, 2025 announcement.

TikTok’s launch announcement described initial eligibility as creators aged 18 or older in the United States, Canada, and select markets, with broader availability planned. That is launch-era information, not confirmation of current availability in every market. Check the feature in your own TikTok account and region.

How TikTok’s other creative tools compare
TikTok also announced Smart Split for turning longer videos into short clips, with reframing, captions, and transcription. That is useful for repurposing and editing existing footage, rather than generating a new video idea. The same distinction applies to older Instagram inspiration formats: Meta’s 2022 Reels announcement described templates with preloaded audio and clip placeholders, plus Remix formats for reacting to or building on public content. Those are examples of inspiration and creation mechanisms, but the announcement is dated, so it should not be treated as a guarantee that every control remains in the same place today. Meta’s 2022 Reels announcement gives that historical context.
