For the closest next step in puzzle-solving and exploration, choose The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. If you want to leave Koholint Island behind for a much larger world, start Breath of the Wild. Prefer a more structured adventure built around dungeons and items? Try Skyward Sword HD. Tears of the Kingdom is a strong choice for open-world exploration and creative construction, especially after Breath of the Wild.
These are recommendations based on Nintendo’s descriptions, not a claim that any game duplicates Link’s Awakening. The right follow-up depends on which part of the Switch remake you most want to revisit.

It is not a sequel to Link’s Awakening. Nintendo’s description supports the broad fit—exploration, puzzles, and combat—but does not establish a match in game length or the original’s compact structure. Treat it as a fresh adventure with overlapping strengths, not a direct continuation.

Breath of the Wild: choose scale and freedom
If what you want next is a change of pace, Breath of the Wild takes Zelda into a much broader Hyrule where you have more freedom to decide how to explore. Nintendo lists it as a Nintendo Switch game and offers an Explorer’s Guide download from its product listing.
Start here if you expect to play Tears of the Kingdom and want to follow the series’ stated sequel order. Nintendo identifies Tears of the Kingdom as the sequel to Breath of the Wild; playing the earlier game first is a sensible way to approach that relationship, though Nintendo does not state it as a requirement.
Tears of the Kingdom: explore and build
Pick Tears of the Kingdom if you want broad exploration and enjoy experimenting with ways to travel or fight. Nintendo describes exploration across Hyrule and floating islands, alongside Ultrahand and Fuse, abilities for creating ways to travel and weapons. The game is a single-player Switch release dated May 12, 2023, with a physical edition listed on Nintendo’s product page.
Because it is the sequel to Breath of the Wild, consider that game first if continuity matters to you. This is the open-exploration option with the most explicit emphasis on making things, rather than a direct substitute for Link’s Awakening’s dungeon progression.
Skyward Sword HD: choose a more structured dungeon adventure
If the dungeons and puzzles were the part of Link’s Awakening you most enjoyed, Skyward Sword HD is the clearest dungeon-centered recommendation in this group. Nintendo highlights puzzle-filled dungeons, items that open further areas, sword practice, and motion controls in its Switch listing.
