If a website says JavaScript is required, turn it on in the browser’s settings, then reload the page. The steps depend on your browser and device: Chrome and Edge have site-permission controls, Safari has separate Mac and iPhone/iPad settings, and Firefox normally has JavaScript enabled by default.

Enable JavaScript in Chrome
On a computer
- Open Chrome’s More menu and select Settings.
- Go to Privacy and security > Site settings > JavaScript.
- Choose the option that allows sites to use JavaScript.
- Return to the affected website and reload it. If JavaScript was blocked only for that site, review the site-specific entry on the JavaScript settings page. Google’s instructions describe both the general control and site-level options.
On Android
- In Chrome, tap More > Settings.
- Open Site settings > JavaScript. On some versions, Site settings appears under Advanced.
- Turn JavaScript on, then reload the site. Google AdSense Help
On iPhone or iPad
Google says JavaScript is on by default in Chrome for iPhone and iPad, so there is no equivalent toggle to enable. If a site still fails, continue with the troubleshooting steps below rather than looking for the desktop setting. Google AdSense Help
Check JavaScript in Firefox
Firefox enables JavaScript by default. If a page says it is disabled, first check extensions that block scripts or change privacy settings; temporarily disabling extensions can help identify whether one is interfering. Mozilla Support
Advanced fallback: about:config
Only change this preference if you are comfortable using Firefox’s advanced settings. In the address bar, open about:config, find javascript.enabled, and check that its value is true. If it is false, toggle or reset it to true. Mozilla warns that changing advanced preferences can affect browser stability, security, and performance. Mozilla Support
Enable JavaScript in Safari

- Click Security.

If the site still says JavaScript is disabled
- Confirm the browser and device. Safari and Chrome have different paths on desktop and mobile, and Chrome on iPhone or iPad has JavaScript on by default.
- Reload the page after changing the setting. If the browser offers site-specific permissions, make sure the affected site is not separately blocked.
- Check extensions and privacy controls. In Firefox especially, a script-blocking extension can override the browser’s normal enabled-by-default behavior. For Google account sign-in problems, Google also recommends checking unsupported extensions and strict privacy settings. Mozilla Support Google Account Help
- Update or check security software when relevant. Google’s sign-in troubleshooting also identifies an old browser version and security programs as possible causes. On a managed work computer, administrator settings may apply. These are troubleshooting possibilities, not proof that JavaScript itself is disabled. Google Account Help
- If only one site fails, consider a site-specific problem. If the browser setting is enabled and the steps above do not help, contact that site’s support team. Apple recommends contacting the website developer when its Safari troubleshooting steps do not resolve a site-specific issue. Apple Support
