Combine your HTML fragments into one valid HTML document, load it with Puppeteer’s page.setContent(), then call page.pdf() once. Puppeteer documents those as separate page APIs; it does not provide a special method that takes an array of HTML strings.
Combine the strings into one document
Put body fragments in the order they should appear, and collect document-level metadata and shared styles in a single <head>. Avoid concatenating several complete documents: nested <html>, <head> and <body> elements are not a sound document structure. If an input is a full document, extract or normalize its body and bring over any required styles before composing the result.
The following ES module example writes a PDF to disk. Install Puppeteer in your project with npm install puppeteer; the API calls shown are documented in the Puppeteer page.setContent() reference and PDF reference.
import puppeteer from 'puppeteer';
const htmlStrings = [
'<h1>Monthly report</h1>',
'<section><h2>Summary</h2><p>Report content goes here.</p></section>',
'<footer>Internal use</footer>'
];
const html = `<!doctype html>
<html>
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8">
<style>
body { font: 12pt Arial, sans-serif; }
@media print { .new-page { break-before: page; } }
</style>
</head>
<body>${htmlStrings.join('n')}</body>
</html>`;
const browser = await puppeteer.launch();
try {
const page = await browser.newPage();
await page.setContent(html);
await page.pdf({ path: 'report.pdf', format: 'A4', printBackground: true });
} finally {
await browser.close();
}
Replace the sample fragments with your own content. If fragments contain user-provided text, escape that text before inserting it into HTML; joining strings does not sanitize markup. Preserve any stylesheets, scripts, fonts and image URLs the final document needs. If browser-side code renders data asynchronously, wait for that application-specific work to finish before calling page.pdf().

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose print appearance and page layout
page.pdf() renders using the print CSS media type by default. If the output should match screen styles instead, call await page.emulateMediaType('screen') before generating the PDF. Print rendering can change colors; use the CSS property -webkit-print-color-adjust: exact where exact print colors matter. CSS background graphics are a separate setting: enable printBackground: true if they must appear, because its default is false.
| Need | Setting | Behavior |
|---|---|---|
| Standard paper size | format: 'A4' or format: 'Letter' |
If format is supplied with width or height, format takes priority. |
| Explicit dimensions | width and height |
Use these when setting paper dimensions directly rather than selecting a named format. |
Honor CSS @page size |
preferCSSPageSize: true |
Lets CSS page dimensions take priority. Its default is false; otherwise content is scaled to fit the configured paper. |
| Page margins | margin |
Set the margins appropriate to the document; the default is undefined. |
| Landscape output | landscape: true |
Landscape defaults to false. |
| Restrict printed pages | pageRanges |
Generate only the specified page range. |
| Adjust overall scale | scale |
The documented range is 0.1 to 2. |
For a section that should begin on a new page, apply print CSS such as break-before: page to its wrapper, then inspect the rendered PDF. Browser pagination depends on the content and layout, so check page breaks, clipping and blank pages with representative input.

Wait for required assets and rendering
The PDF option waitForFonts defaults to true and waits for document.fonts.ready. That helps with fonts, but it does not guarantee that application data or every external asset has finished loading. Wait for the specific condition your page needs—for example, a known selector or completion signal from your own rendering code—before printing. Puppeteer notes that waiting for fonts may require bringing a background page to the front.
Choose how to receive the PDF
- Save to disk: provide
path, as in the example. Without a path, the documented behavior is to return the PDF rather than write a file. - Use the bytes:
page.pdf()resolves to aPromise<Uint8Array>, which you can return from a server handler or pass to your storage code. - Stream the result: use
page.createPDFStream()when your application needs a readable stream; see the Puppeteer stream reference.
Common problems and fixes
- The PDF contains only one fragment or content is missing: confirm that all fragments were added to the composed body in the intended order before
page.setContent(). - Styles disappear or differ between sections: include each fragment’s required CSS in the assembled document or preserve its stylesheet links. Check print-specific rules, since PDF generation uses print media by default.
- Background colors or graphics are absent: set
printBackground: true; adjust print color with-webkit-print-color-adjust: exactif needed. - Fonts or images are missing: verify their URLs are available to the browser process and that the relevant resources are ready before printing. The default font wait only covers
document.fonts.ready, not arbitrary application work. - Page size looks wrong: check whether
formatis overriding dimensions, or usepreferCSSPageSize: trueif the CSS@pagesize should control the output. - Sections split awkwardly: add deliberate print break rules to section wrappers and review the resulting pagination with realistic content.
- The PDF is returned instead of saved: supply the
pathoption if a disk file is required, or handle the returned bytes explicitly.
Or skip the browser setup
For a screenshot or PDF of a live URL rather than assembled HTML strings, ScreenshotNeo offers a one-request capture API. Its PDF endpoint captures a URL; it is not a replacement for composing multiple HTML fragments with Puppeteer.
