Set the proxy when the Playwright request context is created—not on page.request.get(). For the request context attached to a page, configure proxy on browser.newContext(). For an independent API client, configure it on playwright.request.newContext().
Configure the proxy for page.request.get()
page.request is the APIRequestContext associated with the page’s BrowserContext. The same context is available as page.context().request or browserContext.request. Set the proxy while creating the browser context, before making the API request:

});Replace the example proxy host and target URL with your own. The environment variables keep credentials out of the source file; set them in the environment where the script runs. The example hostnames are illustrative, not a tested proxy endpoint.
Choose the right request context
Use the page-associated context to share cookies
Use page.request or browserContext.request when the API call should use the browser context’s cookies. Responses with Set-Cookie update the associated context’s cookie store. Supply the proxy on browser.newContext(), as in the example above.

Use a standalone context for isolated API requests
If API calls should have separate cookie storage rather than share the browser context, create an independent request context. Its proxy belongs on playwright.request.newContext(), and dispose of the context when finished:

The proxy object requires server. Its value can use an HTTP or SOCKS proxy scheme; a host:port value without a scheme is interpreted as an HTTP proxy. Optional fields are username, password, and bypass, which specifies hosts that should not use the proxy. See the official APIRequest reference for proxy options.

Do not assume that proxying the API request also proxies page navigation and browser-originated network requests. Those are browser traffic: configure the browser or browser context proxy for them, too, if both kinds of traffic should go through a proxy. Playwright documents these settings in its HTTP Proxy guide.
What get() returns and how it handles status codes
get() makes an HTTP(S) GET request and follows redirects automatically. By default, it returns a response even when the HTTP status is outside the 2xx and 3xx ranges; use failOnStatusCode if you want such a status to change the error behavior. The documented default request timeout is 30,000 milliseconds. Check the APIRequestContext reference for the current method options.

A response with status 407 means the proxy requires authentication. That is an HTTP response, distinct from a transport-level failure where a response was not obtained. Inspect the status and response body before treating a returned response as a successful API result.
Troubleshoot proxy requests
- The proxy is ignored: Check whether the failing operation is
page.request.get()or browser navigation. The API request context and browser traffic have separate configuration paths; set the proxy on the context that owns the traffic you need to route. - The proxy rejects authentication: Verify the username and password, and confirm the proxy provider expects those credentials in the configured proxy fields. A returned
407is a proxy-authentication response, not proof that the destination API returned an error. - The connection cannot be established: Check the proxy hostname, port, and scheme against the endpoint provided by your proxy service. HTTP and SOCKS schemes are supported; a scheme-less
host:portis treated as HTTP. - Some hosts bypass the proxy: Review the
bypasslist and remove or adjust any domain that matches the destination. The value in the example excludeslocalhostand hosts under.internal.example. - The call fails after waiting: Check whether the proxy or destination is reachable and whether the configured timeout is sufficient. The documented default is 30 seconds; set a different request timeout when the API call needs a different limit.
- The response is non-2xx: A non-success status normally arrives as a response rather than an exception. Inspect
response.status()and decide whether to enablefailOnStatusCodefor your use case. - Cookies differ from the browser: Confirm which context made the request. The page-associated request context shares cookies with its browser context; a standalone context has separate cookie storage.

Can I pass a proxy directly to `page.request.get()`?
No. Configure the proxy when creating the associated browser context or standalone API request context.

Does a standalone Playwright request context share browser cookies?
No. A standalone context has isolated cookie storage; the page-associated request context shares cookies with its browser context.
