Controller re-pairing is a separate process in the Meta Horizon mobile app and does not require reinstalling Link.
What “Oculus software” means now
Meta renamed its PC companion app Meta Quest Link. In its March 6, 2024 announcement, Meta said: “If you previously had the Oculus app installed on your PC, this will automatically update to the Meta Quest Link app.” Meta also directs new users to its Meta Quest Link download page.
That announcement establishes the app name and automatic update behavior, but it is not an uninstall-and-reinstall guide. Meta’s published consumer-facing materials cited here do not document a full removal procedure, so avoid deleting folders, drivers, or registry entries based on unofficial instructions. For a fresh installation or help with an existing one, use Meta’s current download and support pages and follow the instructions shown for your PC.
Reinstall or set up the Meta Quest Link app
Meta’s Link documentation, updated April 21, 2026, says Link is supported on Windows. It lists Quest 3S, Quest 3, Quest 2, Quest Pro, and Meta VR Glasses as compatible devices. The documented setup flow is to download and install Link, then enable and launch Quest Link on the headset:

- On your Windows PC, download the app from Meta’s Quest Link page and install it using the current on-screen instructions.
- Put on the headset and open Settings.
- Select Quest Link and turn it on.
- Select Launch Quest Link.
These are setup and connection steps, not a complete uninstall sequence. If Link is already installed but will not open or recognize your headset, use Meta support for troubleshooting rather than assuming reinstalling is the confirmed fix. Meta recorded a fix shipped October 31, 2025 for one specific Link detection issue; that does not establish that other detection failures have the same cause.
Check a wired Link connection
If you connect the headset to the PC with USB-C, Meta recommends testing the connection in the Link app. If the test reports an incompatible connection or low bandwidth, try another USB-C cable and check that it is in good condition and compatible with the ports on both devices. Meta mentions its Horizon Link Cable as an option for compatibility; it is not a required purchase or a fix for app installation or controller pairing.

Meta’s documentation mentions a 2 Gbps threshold specifically for color passthrough. It should not be treated as a general minimum requirement for every consumer Link connection.

Controller pairing is handled in the Meta Horizon mobile app, independently of the PC Link app. Meta’s documented app flow is below; labels can change, so follow the app’s prompts if your screen differs.

- Turn on the headset.
- Open the Meta Horizon mobile app.
- Tap Menu, then Devices.
- Select your headset, open Headset settings, then tap Controllers.
- Select the controller you want to reset and tap Unpair controller.
- Return to Controllers, tap Pair new controller, and select the controller.
- When prompted, put the controller into pairing mode using its button combination below. Meta says to hold the buttons until the LED blinks and then lights up to finalize pairing.

Meta says paired controllers connect automatically when the headset is on and nearby. If pairing repeatedly fails, or the controller seems physically damaged, stop repeating the process and contact Meta support. Re-pairing does not resolve every hardware or firmware fault.

Which fix should you try?
- Link app missing or needing setup: download the current Meta Quest Link app from Meta and follow its installer instructions.
- Headset not connecting over USB-C: run the app’s connection test, then check cable condition and port compatibility.
- Touch controller will not connect: unpair and pair it again in the Meta Horizon app using the appropriate button combination.
- Persistent detection or controller fault: contact Meta support; neither reinstalling Link nor repeating pairing is established as a universal remedy.
