Its built-in event-duration setting is general. For appointments that other people book, however, you can create separate appointment schedules and select a different duration for each.
Set the general default duration for new events
On Android or iPhone and iPad, change the setting in the Calendar app:
- Open Google Calendar and tap Menu > Settings > General.
- Tap Default event duration.
- Choose the duration you want for new events.
This is a general default, not a rule tied to an event’s title, color, calendar, or category. Google notes that the default duration for non-Google accounts is one hour. See Google’s Android Calendar settings instructions and its iPhone and iPad instructions.
Change event length on a computer
In Google Calendar on a computer, open Settings > Event settings and adjust how long a new event lasts. Google documents this as an event-length control, not as a way to create separate defaults for event types. The desktop help does not establish that its controls are identical to the mobile Default event duration setting. See Google Calendar’s computer settings help.

Give bookable appointments different durations
If by “different types” you mean appointments that other people book through your booking page, use a separate appointment schedule for each appointment type. Each schedule can have its own duration.
- On a computer, select Create > Appointment schedule.
- Enter a title and choose the appointment duration.
- Set the schedule’s availability and booking-page details.
- Create another appointment schedule and choose its duration separately.
Google allows custom appointment durations; appointments must be at least five minutes long. Schedules can be one-time or recurring. Some appointment-schedule features require an eligible Workspace or Google One subscription, so check Google’s current appointment-schedule setup and eligibility details before relying on a feature that may be subscription-dependent. Adjust the duration of one event
For an individual event, change its length while creating or editing it rather than expecting a reusable event-type default. In the Android app, when creating an event from an empty calendar time, Google documents dragging the event’s top or bottom circles to change its duration. This changes that event only.
