There is no single best Android keyboard for everyone. Gboard is a strong starting point for built-in features and multilingual typing; SwiftKey offers an on-device default unless you opt into account features; and AnySoftKeyboard and Urik Keyboard are open-source options with privacy-oriented features. Their privacy claims are not independent security certifications, so choose based on the languages and input modes you need, then check the app’s settings and permissions.

How to choose an Android keyboard

“Private” and “supports multiple languages” can mean different things from one keyboard to another. Compare the behavior you care about rather than relying on a single privacy label or language count.

  • Privacy: Separate local personalization from optional cloud sync, product-improvement sharing, voice processing, and Android permissions. Open-source code can be inspected, but that alone does not prove a particular build is safe or that it sends no data.
  • Languages: Check the exact language, script, layout, dictionary, and transliteration you need. Also confirm whether the languages can be active together, rather than merely installed.
  • Input and customization: Look for the specific themes, key-layout controls, gesture or swipe typing, voice input, handwriting, clipboard, and accessibility settings you use. A listed feature does not establish how well it performs.

Availability can depend on the app version, language, device, and settings. The options below are based on their publishers’ documentation and listings, not hands-on testing or independent network audits.

Which keyboard fits your needs?

Keyboard What stands out Privacy and qualification Best fit
Gboard Broad built-in input features and multilingual suggestions; language layouts and other settings are configurable. Personalization, audio donation, and some voice-editing features have distinct data behaviors; check the relevant settings. Readers who want a feature-rich general-purpose keyboard and need to verify specific language modes.
Microsoft SwiftKey Personalized typing and language features, with account-based cloud services available. Microsoft says data stays local when you have not opted into a SwiftKey account. Account sync and optional improvement sharing involve separate cloud processing. Readers who want local learning by default and can leave account and sharing features off if that is their preference.
AnySoftKeyboard Open-source, customizable keyboard with external language packages, dictionaries, themes, and input options. The project promotes privacy features, but these are project claims. Its F-Droid listing includes contact access, which can support contact-name completion. Readers who want open-source software and are comfortable choosing language packages and reviewing permissions.
Urik Keyboard F-Droid lists local processing, 19 languages, and extensive layout and accessibility controls. The listed privacy and language details are repository or project claims, not independent audit findings. The listed release is beta. Readers willing to assess a newer, beta-stage open-source option.

Gboard: a feature-rich multilingual baseline

Google’s Gboard launch description documented Glide Typing, voice typing, built-in search, emoji and GIF access, and multilingual suggestions and autocorrection across enabled languages in the same conversation. That 2016 description is useful for the stated features, but it should not be treated as confirmation that every historical implementation detail remains unchanged.

  • 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)

Google’s current Gboard Help materials explain how to add language keyboards and layouts, switch languages, use handwriting where available, and change themes, sound, and vibration. The supported languages and availability of individual modes such as voice typing and handwriting vary, so confirm your exact combination in the current app.

What to know about Gboard privacy

Google describes federated learning as enabled by default, with an option to turn it off. Personalized transcripts can be kept on the device and deleted through Gboard privacy settings. These are separate controls and data behaviors; do not treat one setting as a blanket statement about all Gboard processing.

Apple EarPods Headphones with USB-C Plug, Wired Ear Buds with Built-in Remote to Control Music, Phone Calls, and Volume
  • SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
  • HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
  • BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
  • COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
  • INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.

If you agree to audio donation, snippets may be sent to Google for speech-improvement work, and human reviewers may listen to or transcribe some snippets. On supported Pixel devices, advanced voice typing keeps spoken text on the device except when you invoke Fix or request detailed edits; those requests send the transcript and text in the input field to Google servers for processing. Google’s Gboard privacy information describes these distinctions.

Microsoft SwiftKey: local by default, cloud features by choice

Microsoft says that if you have not opted into a SwiftKey account on Android, personal and language data generated by SwiftKey are stored locally and not transferred. If you enable an account, services such as Backup & Sync process data in Microsoft’s cloud. Microsoft’s separate typing-data FAQ says sync sends fragments about words and their usage for synchronization.

The optional “Help Microsoft to improve” setting can share short typing snippets and can be changed in Privacy settings. To keep the documented default behavior, do not opt into an account or that optional sharing. Microsoft describes these choices in its SwiftKey data FAQ.

Password fields and remembered words

Microsoft says SwiftKey does not learn from fields marked as password fields and does not remember long credit-card numbers. This depends on the app or website correctly identifying a password field: a password typed into a message or email, or into a “show password” field, can be learned. You can remove a remembered word from the language model.

F-Droid’s AnySoftKeyboard listing describes an open-source, customizable keyboard with language packages, completion dictionaries, next-word prediction, themes, voice input, and gesture options. The listing showed version 1.13.8175, added March 11, 2026, and requires Android 6.0 or newer. It includes contact access in its permissions list; that permission can be used to complete contact names. Review Android’s permission settings and disable features you do not need.

Urik Keyboard: a beta option with local-first claims

F-Droid’s Urik Keyboard listing describes open-source software with local processing, no network permissions or telemetry, encrypted local data, a local next-word model, spellchecking, and 19 supported languages with merged dictionaries. It also lists layout, theme, key-size, haptic, and accessibility controls.

The listing showed version 0.23.1 beta, added June 14, 2026, with Android 8.0 or newer required. Because this is a beta release, it is more suitable for readers willing to evaluate a newer project than for anyone seeking an established, universal replacement. Its privacy, encryption, and language details are claims in the listing and linked project materials, not independent audit findings.

Pick by the trade-off you want

  • Broad built-in features and multilingual typing: Start with Gboard, check your exact language modes, and review personalization, audio-donation, and voice-editing settings.
  • Local learning unless you opt into sync: Consider SwiftKey without an account or optional improvement sharing, while keeping its password-field caveat in mind.
  • Open source and installable language packages: Consider AnySoftKeyboard; choose the packages you need and review contact access.
  • Local customization and willingness to try beta software: Assess Urik if your device meets its Android requirement and its listed languages cover your needs.

Before switching, check the keyboard’s current language and feature availability, Android permissions, and any optional cloud or voice settings on your own device. Privacy-oriented descriptions and open-source availability are useful signals to investigate, not proof that a keyboard has passed an independent security audit.
