Yes. Active Matter supports cross-platform multiplayer between PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Console players can choose a matchmaking pool limited to their platform, shared across consoles, or open to all supported platforms. Cross-play does not necessarily mean saved progress transfers between platforms.
Which platforms can play Active Matter together?
The official Active Matter FAQ confirms cross-platform multiplayer. It lists PC (through Steam or the Gaijin Store), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S as supported platforms. The game launched on those platforms on September 15, 2026, according to the official launch announcement.
In practical terms, players on those platforms can enter a shared multiplayer pool when the relevant cross-platform option is selected. The available official information does not specify how mixed-platform matches handle input differences or gameplay balance.
What cross-play matchmaking choices do console players have?
The FAQ describes three matchmaking pools for console players. A developer Q&A published September 7, 2026, says these are separate queues that players must select or confirm in settings. The choices differ by which platforms they include:

For example, a console player who wants matches with players on the other console platform but not PC would choose the consoles pool. This describes the pool’s platform scope; it does not guarantee which players will be available in a particular match. The developer Q&A and announcements do not establish whether you can change the choice mid-queue or whether it must be made again for each match.
How does cross-play affect multiplayer?
The direct effect is which platforms can be included in a console player’s matchmaking pool. Choosing the own-platform pool excludes players on other platforms; choosing consoles allows cross-console matchmaking; choosing all platforms includes PC as well as consoles.

The official sources do not publish current player counts, queue times, or platform-by-platform population data. They also do not establish whether mixed-platform matches have different aim-assist behavior, input restrictions, or competitive balance. PC supports controllers, according to the FAQ, but that alone does not explain how input matching works.

Cross-play lets people using different supported platforms play together. Cross-progression means a player’s saved progress carries over when they switch platform versions. The FAQ’s specific answer about PC-to-console progress says it is not available; it says progress sharing applies between the Steam and Gaijin.Net versions on PC.

There is conflicting wording in the official material: the homepage and launch announcement describe progress as shared “across all platforms,” while the detailed FAQ says PC progress cannot transfer to console. Because the FAQ addresses account transfer directly, do not assume PC-to-console progress transfer is supported based on the broader wording. Check the official FAQ for the latest account-transfer details before switching platforms.

- For cross-platform multiplayer, confirm that you and your friends are choosing compatible matchmaking pools.
- If you are moving between PC and console, do not count on your saved progress transferring; the FAQ currently limits sharing to Steam and Gaijin.Net on PC.
- If input method or competitive balance matters to you, the official sources cited here do not settle those details.
