Choose a RIDGID wet/dry vac filter by matching three things: your exact vac model and capacity, the material you’re collecting, and whether pickup is wet or dry. Ordinary dry debris generally calls for a general-debris cartridge; drywall or cement dust calls for a fine-dust filter; liquid or wet debris calls for a filter designated for wet applications. Add a bag only after checking its fit and material restrictions. RIDGID sells different filters and collection accessories for different vac sizes, so no single choice fits every RIDGID vac.
Start with the vac, then the job
Before choosing an accessory, find the vac’s model number and capacity. RIDGID separates its filters and bags by vac size, and products described as fitting a capacity range may still have specific compatibility conditions. Check the product listing or RIDGID’s filters-and-bags matrix against your exact vac rather than relying on capacity alone.
Next, classify the pickup: ordinary dry debris, fine dry dust, or wet material. Choose a filter specifically listed for that condition. If you want to use a bag, verify that it fits the vac and is rated for the material and wet or dry use involved.
Choose a filter for the material and pickup condition

Ordinary dry debris
For routine dry pickup, RIDGID describes the VF4200 as a general-debris cartridge filter for most 5-gallon-and-larger vacs. Its product page says the filter should only be used for dry pickup. Check the VF4200 product page and your vac’s documentation before using it.

Fine dry dust
For drywall or cement dust, RIDGID identifies the VF5000 as a fine-dust filter for vacs of 5 gallons and larger. Smaller 3–4.5-gallon vacs have a separate fine-dust option, the VF3500. Do not substitute one for the other based on filter type alone; confirm the model and capacity match in RIDGID’s lineup. The VF5000 product page specifies dry pickup.
Wet pickup
Do not assume a dry cartridge filter is suitable for liquid or wet debris. RIDGID lists foam filters for wet applications separately from dry cartridge filters. Confirm that the chosen foam filter fits your vac and follow the instructions for both the filter and vac. A filter being physically installable does not by itself establish that it is approved for every pickup condition.

HEPA claims: distinguish media from a system
RIDGID’s VF3800 product page cautions: “The use of this filter alone within a RIDGID wet/dry vacuum does not guarantee your RIDGID wet/dry vacuum will provide HEPA system filtration.” In other words, do not treat a HEPA-media filter as proof that the entire vac setup delivers HEPA system filtration. Read the claim for the exact filter or combination of components and check which vacs and uses it covers. See the VF3800 product page.
Decide whether a collection bag belongs in the setup
A bag can capture dust and general debris and help keep the vac drum cleaner, but bags have their own fit, pickup, and material restrictions. RIDGID’s catalog distinguishes dry-only bags from a premium wet-or-dry bag. Check the selected bag’s stated rating rather than inferring wet suitability from the fact that it is made for a wet/dry vac.

Bag-and-filter kit for ordinary dry pickup
The VF4500 bundle includes one VF4000 general-debris filter and two VF3502 Size A bags. RIDGID describes it for most 12–16-gallon vacs with a hose inlet in the drum. The bags are limited to non-toxic, non-flammable materials. Check the vac’s capacity, drum-inlet arrangement, and the debris restrictions before selecting this kit. HEPA-media and pre-separator kit for specified work
RIDGID’s VF6500 kit combines one VF6000 HEPA-media filter with two VF3602 cyclonic pre-separator bags. RIDGID says the combined components provide HEPA-level filtration in select 12–16-gallon vacs; it states that the setup filters 99.97% of particles 0.3 microns and larger. That figure applies to RIDGID’s stated kit and compatible-vac setup, not to any vac using a HEPA-media filter by itself.

RIDGID describes the kit as OSHA Silica Table 1 compatible only for specified dry dust-control methods and applications, including handheld power saws cutting fiber-cement board with a blade or wheel no greater than 4 inches in diameter and handheld grinders used for mortar removal. The user or employer must confirm that airflow meets the tool manufacturer’s requirements. RIDGID says the select vacs provide a minimum of 100 CFM and specifies 25 CFM per inch of grinding-wheel diameter for checking grinder airflow needs. These are conditions for the manufacturer’s bounded compatibility statement, not a blanket claim of OSHA compliance for every vac, tool, or silica task. Use this final compatibility check
- Match the accessory to the exact vac model and capacity, not just the RIDGID brand.
- Confirm that the filter is intended for the debris and wet or dry pickup condition.
- For fine dust, choose the size-appropriate fine-dust model rather than a general-debris filter.
- For a bag, check its size, drum-inlet compatibility, wet/dry rating, and material limits.
- For HEPA or OSHA-related language, distinguish a filter’s media from a combined filtration setup and preserve the stated vac, task, and airflow conditions.
