Back up your data before service. Whether the remedy is a repair, replacement, or another option depends on the coverage assessment, your purchase location, and the seller.
What to do first
- Document the symptom. Note what happens, when it started, whether it occurs consistently, and what seems to trigger it. If safe, take a photo or video. Do not deliberately reproduce a fault that could pose a safety risk.
- Keep your purchase and service records. Save the receipt or order confirmation, serial number, and messages with the seller or Apple. Apple says proof of purchase may be required for some repairs.
- Contact Apple and the seller. Start an assessment through Apple’s iPhone repair and support page, and ask the seller how it handles a newly discovered fault. Keep the seller’s response in writing.
- Ask about charges before authorizing work. Confirm whether inspection or the proposed service will cost anything. Out-of-warranty estimates may be subject to tax or shipping charges, final fees depend on inspection, and Apple Authorized Service Providers may set their own fees.
- Back up before handing over the iPhone. Confirm that your backup and iCloud syncing are complete, then follow Apple’s current preparation instructions for your device and repair type.
Is the problem covered by Apple’s warranty?
Apple’s Limited Warranty covers the iPhone and Apple-branded accessories included in the box against manufacturing issues for one year from purchase. It excludes accidental damage and batteries that wear down through normal use. Apple states that its warranty is in addition to rights provided by applicable consumer law. Apple must assess the problem to determine whether it qualifies. If it is not covered, service may involve a charge or a paid replacement. The final cost depends on inspection, and service options and availability vary by location and parts.
Contact the seller as well as Apple
A new phone may give you options through the retailer or other seller as well as manufacturer support. The available remedy and any deadline depend on the country or region, the seller, and the circumstances of the purchase. Because there is no universal return period or remedy, ask the seller what it can offer and check the official consumer-protection authority for the place where you bought the iPhone.

Prepare your iPhone for service
Apple warns that your iPhone might be erased during service. Back it up and confirm your data has synced before the appointment. Apple’s live guide, Prepare your iPhone or iPad for a service appointment, covers current steps, including Wallet items, Parts and Service History where relevant, and the applicable Find My or repair-preparation instructions. Follow the instructions for your device and service type rather than relying on an old menu path.
Apple advises bringing the iPhone, relevant accessories, proof of purchase if possible, and identification. It also states: “Never give your Apple Account password, device passcode, or account security details to anyone else.”

Choose a repair provider carefully
Apple says repairs performed by Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider are covered by Apple’s Limited Warranty and AppleCare plans. An independent provider may offer its own warranty, but Apple does not back that work; damage caused by a non-authorized provider is not covered by Apple’s warranty or AppleCare unless required by law. Check the coverage implications before approving third-party work. Apple explains the distinction on its repair and repair-status page.
Apple offers in-person service at Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers, plus mail-in service where available. Use the repair flow to see which options are offered for your location and case.

After the repair or replacement
Read the service summary and test the original symptom. Apple says service and replacement parts are guaranteed for 90 days or the remaining term of the Apple warranty, whichever is longer.
