Start by checking whether the problem affects one title, one app, or every app. That distinction points you toward the service, the app, the TV, or the network—and helps you avoid disruptive resets. Check the connection first, then restart and update the TV and app; reinstall only the app that is failing. Menu names and reset effects vary by TV make, model, software version, and region.
First identify what is failing
Try to reproduce the problem and note whether the app opens, whether you see an error, and whether a black screen has sound. Record the exact error text and your TV’s make and model before contacting support.

Check the TV’s internet connection
On the TV, open its network settings and confirm it is connected to the intended Wi-Fi network. If the connection is missing or unstable, reconnect to the network and restart the router. Google TV’s troubleshooting flow begins with Wi-Fi and the selected network; Roku also provides connection-test and reconnect steps. Menu paths differ by platform, so use the network settings available on your TV.
If playback keeps buffering or stopping, reduce other internet use temporarily and retry. If practical, compare the TV on a phone hotspot or use Ethernet if the TV has a network port. Google Play Help lists a wired connection as a troubleshooting option. A hotspot test uses mobile data and may incur charges.

Netflix lists a weak or unstable internet connection and a device that may need an update as possible causes of slow loading or repeated buffering. It does not establish one speed threshold that applies to every service, video quality, and network condition. Netflix Help Center
Restart the app and TV, then check for updates
- Close and reopen the app. Use the app-closing control if your TV offers one. If not, move to the TV restart.
- Restart the TV or streaming device. Use its restart option in settings or the manufacturer’s cold-boot procedure. On some TVs, pressing the remote’s power button only puts the set in standby; Samsung describes a cold boot as a full restart. Samsung Support
- Check for TV system updates. Find the software update option in the TV’s settings and follow the prompts for your model.
- Check for an app update. App update controls and availability vary by platform. Google TV and Roku include device and app update steps in their help flows. Google TV Help and Roku Support
Repair a problem limited to one app
If other apps play normally but one app still crashes, will not load, or will not play video, check that you are signed in and that your subscription is active if the service requires one. Then update the app. If your TV allows it, remove and reinstall that app; you may need to sign in again afterward.

Samsung’s app troubleshooting sequence includes a cold boot, software update, app deletion and re-download, and then a Smart Hub reset. LG also recommends updating or reinstalling an affected app. Smart Hub resets and other platform resets are not universal instructions: menus, consequences, and available options depend on the TV model and software. Choose checks for the symptom
Buffering or repeated stops
- Check the TV’s Wi-Fi connection and confirm it is on the intended network.
- Restart the router and TV, then retry with less competing internet use.
- If practical, test another network or Ethernet to distinguish a home Wi-Fi issue from a TV or app issue.
- Check for TV and app updates.

Restart the TV or streaming device, check the app and TV for updates, and verify that the network is working. Use the streaming service’s troubleshooting steps for your device if the picture remains black. Netflix has a separate flow for black-screen playback symptoms. Netflix Help Center

Determine whether the app runs directly on the TV or on an HDMI-connected streaming device. For an external device, confirm the TV is on the correct input and check the cable and connection. The app freezes, crashes, or will not load
Restart the app and TV, install available app and system updates, then reinstall the affected app if the TV supports it. If only one title fails while others play, use the title comparison instead of resetting the TV. Samsung Support, LG USA Support, and Roku Support

- Contact the streaming service if other apps work but one service does not. Include the title, exact error message, TV make and model, app version if available, and the steps you have tried.
- Contact the TV manufacturer if several apps fail on the TV while other devices work on the same network. Provide the TV model and your network and restart/update checks.
- Contact your internet provider if the TV and other devices also have connection problems, or if network troubleshooting does not resolve widespread buffering. Netflix advises contacting the internet service provider when its connection troubleshooting does not fix buffering. Netflix Help Center
