Valve lists Deadlock as a multiplayer game, without advertising a full solo mode. Crossplay is unconfirmed by the sources available here. Steam still gives the release date as “To be announced,” so features and input behavior may change.
Does Deadlock support controllers?
Yes, controller configuration is supported through Steam Input. Valve’s November 7, 2024 update notes describe a Controller tab, a button to launch the Steam Input Configurator, glyph-locking options, and updated official Steam Input configurations for Steam Deck and DualSense. The notes also mention a fix for a controller that did not work until a level loaded. This establishes configuration support in that build, not reliable operation for every controller in every current version.
A Valve developer account explained in an official Deadlock forum discussion that Steam Deck’s controller relies on Steam Input, which can also recognize other controllers that a developer might otherwise need to support manually. That describes Steam Input generally; it is not a compatibility guarantee for every device or Deadlock build.
What to expect from controller setup
- Check whether Steam Input recognizes your specific controller, then review its bindings in the Steam Input Configurator.
- Verify that you can perform the actions you need, including movement, combat, menus, and utility actions. A controller being detected does not prove every interaction is convenient.
- Expect that bindings may need attention after updates. Valve’s 2024 notes warn that some users may need to rebind joysticks or gyros after changes to legacy analog modes.
A player report posted on the official forum on February 26, 2026 describes intermittent detection at startup and difficulties with actions including the ping wheel, quick buying, scoreboard cursor control, and buying upgrades while dead. This is one player’s report, not a controlled test or evidence that all controller users encounter those issues. A Steam Community guide last updated December 6, 2024 also discusses controller play and gyro configurations, but it is community-authored and may no longer match the evolving game.

Can you play Deadlock solo?
Deadlock is presented by Valve as a multiplayer action game. Its Steam listing does not advertise a single-player feature, but that omission does not establish whether the current build has limited bot matches, a sandbox, or other practice options. If by “solo” you mean playing without other human players, check the current in-game mode selection rather than assuming bot matches are available.
Does Deadlock have crossplay?
Crossplay is not confirmed by the sources available here. Valve’s Steam listing confirms multiplayer but does not advertise crossplay or specify support for other platforms or storefronts. Crossplay means players on different platforms or storefronts can join the same matches; ordinary online multiplayer on Steam does not, by itself, confirm that capability. The listing’s silence is not enough to conclude that crossplay is unavailable.

Is a controller a good choice for Deadlock?
The available sources do not include comparative testing of controller and keyboard-and-mouse performance, win rates, or competitive balance. Choose based on whether Steam Input recognizes your device, whether you can bind the actions you use, and whether you are comfortable troubleshooting settings or adjusting bindings when updates change them. A controller is optional hardware, not a stated requirement.

Valve’s Steam listing gives Deadlock a release date of “To be announced.” The controller details above include notes from a November 2024 build, while the reported interaction problems are one player’s account from February 2026. Treat both feature availability and setup behavior as version-sensitive, and check the current game and Steam Input configuration for the latest experience.
