Neither Samsung Internet nor Chrome is the universal winner. Samsung Internet—called Samsung Browser on Samsung’s current US product page—is a better fit if you want visible tracker controls and Samsung-specific extras. Chrome suits readers who value Google’s documented Safe Browsing options and Google-account ecosystem. There is no current, controlled Android head-to-head speed benchmark in the available official documentation, so a speed winner cannot be named.

Which browser is better for privacy?
Privacy depends on what data you want to limit. Preventing trackers, reducing local browsing history, avoiding security threats, and limiting data sent to a browser provider are different goals. Neither browser’s private mode makes you anonymous.
Samsung: tracker visibility, with a separate step for ads
Samsung says its Android browser includes Smart Anti-Tracking. Its privacy dashboard surfaces blocked-content information and lets you adjust safety settings. Samsung also draws a clear line between tracking controls and ad blocking: its product page says a compatible third-party app must be installed to block ads. Check that an app is currently available and compatible with your Samsung Browser version before relying on it.
That makes Samsung a practical choice if you want browser-level visibility into tracking and controls in one place. It does not mean every ad or tracker is blocked, or that the browser includes a full ad blocker by default.

Chrome: Safe Browsing protection has a data-sharing trade-off
Chrome’s Safe Browsing setting protects against dangerous sites and downloads, but the protection level affects what is shared with Google. With Standard protection, Chrome periodically stores lists of unsafe sites on the device. In some circumstances, it may send an obfuscated portion of a URL through a privacy server that hides the user’s IP address before forwarding it to Google.
Enhanced protection sends Google more information—including URLs, a small sample of page content, downloads, extension activity, and system information—to provide stronger, more customized real-time protection. That is a trade-off between additional threat detection and sharing more browsing-related information; it is not accurately described simply as “private” versus “unsafe.” See Google’s explanation of Chrome Safe Browsing.
Chrome also has optional reporting controls
Google says Chrome usage statistics and crash reports are enabled by default and can be switched off. Crash reports may include site URLs, preceding activity, and memory contents at the time of a crash. Optional “Make searches and browsing better” settings may include URLs. Review these options in Chrome’s privacy settings if you want to limit such reporting; the precise labels and availability can vary by release.

Chrome also supports Do Not Track, which is off by default. Google says most websites and web services, including Google’s, do not change their behavior when they receive a Do Not Track request, so enabling it is not a reliable way to prevent tracking. Google’s Do Not Track guidance.

What private browsing does—and does not do
Samsung Secret mode
Samsung describes Secret mode as not saving browsing history, cookies, or search records. It can be configured with options such as a password, keeping Secret mode active after closing the app, screenshot permission, and anti-tracking controls. Settings and availability may depend on device and software version.
Samsung warns that activity can still be visible to websites, an internet service provider, apps, and the phone manufacturer. Secret mode is therefore for reducing records kept by the browser on the device, not concealing activity from the network or the sites visited. Samsung child accounts also have restrictions, with age rules varying by country. Samsung’s Secret mode support.

Chrome Incognito
Chrome Incognito does not automatically sign you into Google or other sites. When all Incognito windows close, Chrome deletes session site data; bookmarks and downloaded files remain. Websites and network operators—including employers, schools, and internet providers—may still observe activity. Google’s Incognito guidance.
Choose either mode when you want less browsing information retained in the browser after a session. Do not treat either as a VPN, an anonymity tool, or protection from monitoring by the sites and networks you use.
Security features: where Chrome has more documented controls
Chrome’s documented security options include Safety Check, upgrades to HTTPS connections when available, Secure DNS, and password warnings. Safe Browsing can be set to Standard or Enhanced protection, with the information-sharing differences described above. Google’s feature documentation is at Chrome security settings.

Samsung documents its privacy dashboard, malicious-site warnings, and blocking of automatic downloads. These are useful safeguards, but their presence does not establish that the two browsers have identical threat detection or that one is categorically more secure. Availability and defaults can change with browser release, phone model, and settings. Samsung’s current product and support information is available on its browser page and privacy dashboard guide.

Choose Samsung for Samsung-specific tools
Samsung promotes browser features including Galaxy AI Ask AI, page summaries, translation, and read-aloud. Samsung cautions that availability varies by region, device, software version, carrier, and language; some functions require a Samsung account and a network connection. Treat these as device-dependent extras, not guaranteed features on every Android phone. Samsung Browser feature information.
Choose Chrome if Google services are central to your setup
Chrome is a natural fit if you already rely on Google services and want their browser integration. That convenience does not require enabling every reporting or protection option: review the account, privacy, and Safe Browsing settings to match your comfort with data sharing. The cited sources do not establish a universal feature advantage independent of a user’s device and settings.

Is Samsung Internet faster than Chrome?
There is no evidence here for a measured speed winner. The official sources reviewed do not provide a current, controlled comparison of Samsung Internet and Chrome on the same Android device, network, browser versions, settings, and test sites. Chrome’s Android help says V8 optimizations improve site performance and disabling them reduces performance, but that fact alone does not compare Chrome with Samsung Internet.
If speed matters most, compare both on your own phone under normal conditions: use the same network and sites, keep each browser’s settings representative of how you will actually use it, and account for ad or content blocking. A browser that blocks more page content may feel faster on some sites while changing what is displayed; results on one phone or site do not establish a general ranking.
Which one should you use?
- Pick Samsung Internet if its tracker controls and privacy dashboard are the features you want, or if Samsung’s device-dependent browser extras appeal to you. Install a compatible third-party app separately if ad blocking is a requirement.
- Pick Chrome if Google services are central to your workflow or you prefer its documented Safe Browsing choices and security settings. Choose Standard or Enhanced protection with the information-sharing trade-off in mind.
- Test both if speed or compatibility with particular sites matters most. The available evidence does not support a universal speed winner, and results depend on your device, settings, network, and the pages you visit.
Samsung’s US product page currently uses the name Samsung Browser, while support materials may call it Samsung Internet. Features can also vary by model, region, operating-system or One UI version, carrier, account, and language.
