Open the video’s built-in report menu and choose the category that matches the harm: manipulated media, impersonation, harassment, privacy, or non-consensual intimate imagery. If the video is sexual or intimate and shared without consent, use the platform’s dedicated intimate-imagery or privacy process as well when one is available. Reporting menus and form availability can change; the instructions below reflect guidance available as of October 3, 2026.
Choose the report route that matches the harm
The fact that a video was made with AI does not by itself tell you which policy it violates. Focus on what the video shows and how it affects the person depicted.
- Misleading synthetic media: Look for a manipulated-media, deepfake, or misinformation category.
- Someone’s identity or likeness used without permission: Consider impersonation or privacy reporting, especially if the video is not sexual.
- Sexual or intimate material shared without consent: Choose the intimate-imagery, unauthorized intimate content, or sexual exploitation route, and use a specialized form if the platform offers one.
- Targeted abuse or financial deception: Choose harassment, bullying, fraud, or scams when that category best describes the conduct.
If more than one policy applies, submit the best-fitting in-app report and also use a dedicated privacy or intimate-imagery process where available. An AI disclosure label is not a takedown: Meta distinguishes informational labels from removal for other Community Standards violations, and labeled material may remain on its platforms.
Report the video on the platform where it appears
TikTok
- Open the video and its Share or report controls.
- Choose Report, then Misinformation, then Deepfakes, synthetic media, and manipulated media.
- If impersonation, hate speech, or another issue better describes the harm, use the applicable reporting route instead or in addition.
This route is described in TikTok’s AI-generated-content guidance for videos that may violate its Edited Media and AI-Generated Content policy. App labels can differ by version or region.

Facebook and Instagram
- Open the post’s report menu.
- Select the policy concern that fits, such as non-consensual intimate imagery, sexual exploitation, bullying or harassment, impersonation, or fraud or scams.
- For intimate imagery, check the current Help Center or in-app flow for a dedicated form in addition to the post report.
The Oversight Board’s 2026 review of sexualized AI impersonation describes reporting by both the person depicted and third parties. At the time of the Board’s decision, a specialized form for intimate imagery and “deepfake intimate imagery” was available to residents of Texas and Florida, with broader U.S. availability in progress. That availability may have changed. The Board also described a case in which a report was not prioritized for human review, so submitting a report does not guarantee immediate removal.
X
- On the post, select Report post.
- Choose It displays a sensitive photo or video, then An unauthorized photo or video.
- Choose It includes unauthorized, intimate content of me or someone else, select the option that describes who you are reporting on behalf of, and submit.
X’s instructions say one report can include up to five posts. Its policy allows anyone to report some categories; for other content, X may need information directly from the person featured or an authorized representative to establish context.

YouTube
- Open the video and select More → Report.
- Choose the reason that best matches the violation and submit the report.
- Check Report history to see the status of your reports. If the issue concerns someone’s likeness or another privacy issue, use YouTube’s separate privacy complaint process as well.
YouTube says a report does not automatically take content down; its review team assesses reports.
If the video is intimate or sexual and shared without consent
For a U.S. incident, the Take It Down Act provides a request route for covered platforms to remove non-consensual intimate imagery, including AI-generated material. The FTC says covered platforms must provide a clear reporting process and remove the reported intimate image and known identical copies within 48 hours of a request. Notify the platform through its applicable process; the FTC also advises reporting platform noncompliance to the agency. This U.S. deadline should not be assumed to apply in other countries.

For maliciously altered explicit content in the United States, a person can also file a report with the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3). The FBI warns that perpetrators may turn benign photos or videos into explicit synthetic content and circulate it on social media, forums, or pornography sites. An IC3 report is an additional route, not a substitute for asking the platform to remove the content.

- If it is safe, record the direct post URL, account name, platform, and the date and time you found it.
- Save the platform’s report confirmation or case number.
- Keep any evidence securely. Avoid downloading or forwarding sexual content, particularly if a minor may be depicted.
- Do not engage with the poster or pay an extortion demand. If someone is threatened or in immediate danger, contact local emergency services.
These are practical precautions, not a universal evidence checklist prescribed by every platform. The appropriate legal or government reporting route depends on where you are; the FTC and IC3 options described above are U.S.-specific.
