Check three things separately: the One UI version already installed, whether your exact model is on Samsung’s schedule for the relevant country, and whether an update is being offered to your phone now. A phone can be eligible for an update that has not yet reached its carrier or rollout wave.
1. Check the One UI version and exact model
- Open Settings > About phone and note the phone’s model name or number.
- Go to Settings > About phone > Software information. Record the One UI version, Android version, and build number shown there. These identify the software currently installed; they do not establish whether another release is planned. Samsung’s update instructions describe these settings.
2. Check the model’s eligibility in the right market
Compare the full model name or number with Samsung’s current One UI upgrade schedule for the country where the phone was sold or is being used. Read the schedule’s status carefully: an update marked available is different from one listed as scheduled or expected. Samsung’s India One UI 8 schedule, last updated October 1, 2026, says its model list and timing can change and that supported features and timing may vary by model, country, and network operator. It is a regional schedule, not a worldwide list. Check Samsung’s support information for your own market.
Do not assume every phone in a product family qualifies because a sibling model appears. Samsung’s US One UI 8 list, for example, includes the Galaxy S21 FE but not the other Galaxy S21 models. Eligibility can differ even within a family.

- Open Settings > Software update > Download and install.
- If those labels are not shown, look for System updates and an option such as Check for system updates or Check for software updates. Menu names vary by model or carrier.
- Follow the on-screen instructions if an update is offered. If none is offered, use the rollout checks below before deciding the model is unsupported. Samsung’s instructions cover the phone update check.
Why an eligible phone may not find an update
Eligibility means Samsung lists the model for an update; availability means an update is being offered to that particular phone at the time of the check. Those states can differ because releases roll out in stages and timing can vary by country, carrier, and device variant.

- Staged release: Samsung says updates can roll out in waves. If the update has been released for your exact device, try checking again later over Wi-Fi. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance explains update availability issues.
- Carrier review or customization: Carrier-branded software may be delayed while the carrier reviews or customizes an update. Check the carrier’s update information as well as Samsung’s regional schedule. Samsung’s carrier update guidance describes this process.
- SIM and variant differences: Samsung notes that some SIM-unlocked devices may need a SIM from the original carrier to receive an update. Confirm the device variant and carrier conditions that apply to your phone.
If Samsung or your carrier confirms that an update has been released for your exact device but it still does not appear, Samsung also describes using Smart Switch on a Windows PC or Mac to install an update available for the connected phone. Follow Samsung’s update troubleshooting instructions; Smart Switch is an alternate update route, not a way to make an ineligible model eligible.
What “Your software is up to date” means
That message means no newer update is currently being offered through that check. It does not, by itself, say whether Samsung plans to update the model in the future. Check the current regional schedule for model eligibility, then consider rollout timing, carrier, and device variant.

How to interpret Samsung’s update-support commitment
Samsung’s February 9, 2022 announcement promised up to four generations of One UI and Android OS upgrades and up to five years of security updates for select Galaxy devices. It named selected S22 and S21 models, foldables, and tablets; the same announcement said devices outside that four-generation group could receive up to three generations under the policy it described. These were selective policy commitments, not a guarantee for every Galaxy phone. Samsung also said availability and timing could vary by model and Android OS timing. Check the current schedule and the commitment for your exact model rather than applying those figures to the whole Galaxy range. Samsung’s announcement contains the original policy details.

- Exact model and regional variant
- Latest One UI version currently available for that model
- Whether the target release is marked available, scheduled, or expected
- Country, carrier, and rollout status
- Model-specific operating-system and security support commitment
