The Pro’s US recommended price is $899.99, while Microsoft’s current listing showed $799.99 for the 1 TB Xbox Series X Carbon Black. That makes the Pro $100 more at those reference prices, but the Xbox figure is a live listing to verify, and the consoles’ features and configurations differ.
Neither console guarantees a particular resolution or frame rate in every game. The practical comparison is which version of the games you play supports the features you want, on the display you own, at a total price that makes sense.
How do the graphics and performance compare?
PS5 Pro’s main graphics advantage is its set of supported-game enhancements: PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), advanced ray tracing, and options for higher or more consistent frame rates. Sony says compatible games can offer 60 fps or up to 120 fps with 4K output and ray tracing together. That is a capability for supported titles and modes—not a promise that every PS5 game runs at those settings.
Microsoft lists Xbox Series X as capable of True 4K and up to 120 FPS. It also supports HDMI Variable Refresh Rate, Auto Low Latency Mode, and AMD FreeSync. Those are platform capabilities; the game, selected mode, and connected display determine what you actually get.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
In its March 2026 announcement, Sony said its upgraded PSSR improves image stability, fine-detail clarity, and performance consistency in supported games. That rollout included Silent Hill f, Monster Hunter Wilds, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and Crimson Desert. Sony also says the updated feature can be enabled for supported existing titles through an optional system setting. PSSR support and the resulting image vary by game.
There is no reliable universal winner based on the headline GPU figures alone. Sony’s manual lists a 16.7 TFLOPS RDNA-based PS5 Pro GPU; Microsoft lists a 12 TFLOPS, 52-CU RDNA 2 GPU for Xbox Series X. These are manufacturer specifications for different GPU configurations and architectures, not a controlled comparison of game performance. The official sources cited here do not provide a same-game benchmark with matched scenes, patches, settings, and capture methods.

For a specific game, compare its available modes and Pro enhancements rather than assuming the higher TFLOPS figure settles image quality, frame rate, or frame pacing. A high-refresh experience also requires a compatible game mode and display; a console’s “up to 120 FPS” capability is not a guarantee of 120 fps in every title.
Which games and libraries are supported?
Sony’s PS5 Pro page listed more than 100 enhanced PS5 titles when reviewed on October 3, 2026; the count can change. Sony also says PS5 Pro plays PS5 games and more than 8,500 PS4 games, with Game Boost improving frame rates in some PS4 and PS5 titles. Enhancement is not uniform across the library, so check support for the games you actually play.

Microsoft says Xbox Series X supports thousands of games spanning four Xbox generations. Xbox One game progress and accessories carry over in supported cases. For either console, an existing digital library, preferred games, and the platform your friends use may matter more to value than a hardware specification.
In Sony’s March 16, 2026 PlayStation Blog post, Remedy Entertainment graphics technical director Tatu Aalto praised improved PSSR in Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, particularly its particle effects. That is a developer comment about one game, not an independent test comparing the consoles.

What storage and disc options do they offer?
| Console and configuration | Internal storage | Disc option |
|---|---|---|
| PS5 Pro | 2 TB custom SSD; Sony’s manual lists a Key M M.2 expansion connector. | Removable compatible disc drive sold separately. It supports 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, and DVD; pairing it with the console at setup requires an internet connection. |
| Xbox Series X Carbon Black | 1 TB SSD | 4K UHD Blu-ray drive. |
| Xbox Series X Galaxy Black | 2 TB SSD | 4K UHD Blu-ray drive. |
| Xbox Series X all-digital edition | 1 TB SSD | No disc drive. |
Microsoft says Xbox Series X supports separate Storage Expansion Cards that match the internal SSD’s performance, as well as USB 3.1 external hard drives. Check the exact Xbox edition and your installed game library before deciding whether you will need more storage. For a physical-game collection or Blu-ray and DVD use, include the separate PS5 Pro drive in the total cost; it is not included with the console.

Sony announced a US PS5 Pro recommended price of $899.99, effective April 2, 2026. Microsoft’s US product-page search listing showed an ERP of $799.99 for the 1 TB Carbon Black Xbox Series X, reviewed October 3, 2026. Microsoft’s opened page masked its price fields, so treat that Xbox number as a lower-confidence current listing rather than a stable MSRP. Check local prices, bundles, and discounts before buying.

At those reference figures, the PS5 Pro costs $100 more. That difference alone does not settle value: PS5 Pro includes a 2 TB SSD but requires a separately sold disc drive if you want physical media; Xbox offers disc and all-digital editions, a 2 TB model, and separate expansion storage. Compare the specific configurations and accessories you need rather than comparing only the entry prices.
Quick Recap
Which console should you choose?
Choose PS5 Pro if
- The PS5 games you care about have Pro enhancements or upgraded PSSR support, and you value sharper detail, ray tracing, or a higher-frame-rate mode in those titles.
- You have a 4K display and, for high-refresh modes, a 120 Hz-capable display that can use the relevant features.
- You want 2 TB of internal storage as standard and are comfortable with the higher price and separate disc-drive cost if you need one.
Choose Xbox Series X if
- Your Xbox library, backwards-compatible games, accessories, or friends make the Xbox ecosystem a better fit.
- You want to choose between a disc-drive model and an all-digital model, or prefer the available storage configurations.
- The current local price, including any required expansion storage, is a better match for your budget.
Before deciding
- Look up the graphics modes and Pro-specific support for the games you play most.
- Check your display’s resolution and refresh-rate capabilities against the modes those games offer.
- Add the console, disc drive if needed, storage expansion if needed, and any relevant local price differences to compare total cost.
- Consider your existing games, physical discs, multiplayer friends, and platform preferences alongside graphics features.
