If F1 25 feels twitchy, tune the input that matches the problem: use controller linearity for overly sensitive stick movement near center, deadzone only for stick drift, and saturation for how much stick travel is needed to reach full steering lock. On a wheel, adjust force-feedback strength, damper, and surface effects separately. These are starting points, not universal presets; change one setting at a time and retest in a repeatable session.
What changed in F1 25
EA says it tuned controller steering rate to feel more consistent at different car speeds. Track conditions and each car’s dynamics are also intended to make grip limits easier to read. EA describes the result this way: “For those of you who play on a controller, you’ll notice that track conditions and the car’s unique dynamics give a more intuitive feel to steering, allowing you to better understand the limits of grip.” EA’s F1 25 deep dive also says it reviewed wheel force feedback across a wide range of models, aiming to improve aligning-torque information and communicate when the car breaks into oversteer.
These design changes do not mean there is one setting that suits every player or device. EA does not publish a quantified comparison showing that a particular value makes steering smoother or improves lap times. The numeric baselines below come from independent guides, not EA, and should be treated as optional starting points.
Make controller steering less twitchy
Open the controller calibration section under Controls, Vibration & Force Feedback. The exact labels or menu path can vary by platform or game update. Adjust these three controls according to the symptom rather than raising them all together.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Setting | What it changes | When to adjust it | Optional starting point |
|---|---|---|---|
| Steering Deadzone | Ignores small stick movement around the center. | Increase it only enough to stop unwanted stick drift. It is not a fix for a response curve that feels too sensitive. | Independent guide suggests 1–3; use the minimum that removes drift. Source. |
| Steering Linearity | Changes how steering builds as you move the stick; greater linearity makes initial movement less sensitive and the response more progressive. | Raise it gradually if small movements around center make the car twitchy. | Independent guide suggests 20–30 as an initial range. Source. |
| Steering Saturation | Changes how much stick travel is needed to reach full steering lock. | Lower it slightly if the car reaches too much lock with little stick movement; raise it slightly if you cannot reach enough lock. | Independent guide suggests 0–5 as a starting range. Source. |
After changing a value, drive a familiar track in Time Trial or another repeatable session, then change only one value if the same symptom remains. This is a way to isolate what the control is doing, not a guarantee of faster laps.
Set up a racing wheel without chasing a universal preset
- Check recognition and platform support. Consult EA’s F1 25 supported-device list for your platform. EA also lists selected PC wheelbases and rims with default presets that map controls and set force feedback; preset support is not a performance ranking.
- Calibrate wheel and pedal travel in the game. Confirm that inputs register smoothly across their range. A legacy Codemasters PC help page discusses separate pedal axes, but its menu directions are for older F1 titles, not a verified F1 25 menu path: Codemasters’ older PC controls guide.
- Separate the feedback controls. Force-feedback strength sets overall force, damper changes smoothing or resistance, and effect sliders adjust surface and kerb cues. If forces feel too heavy, reduce strength. Adjust damper if oscillation or harshness is the issue; change surface effects to suit how much road detail you want.
- Treat guide values as optional, hardware-dependent baselines. One independent guide suggests strength around 55–75 overall and 45–60 for the direct-drive examples it names. Those are not official EA values or tested recommendations, and a setting appropriate for one wheel can feel wrong on another. See the guide and its hardware context.
- Retest after each adjustment. Use the same session and conditions where possible, and change one slider at a time. Feedback settings cannot correct aggressive driving technique, tyre behavior, driver or hardware problems, or a defective device.
Use smoother inputs as well as settings
EA says rapid steering inputs such as “flicking” are less effective on race days because aggressive driving can heat tyres and increase wear. A calibration change may make steering easier to manage, but it does not replace measured inputs. If the car still feels unsettled, try making smaller, more progressive corrections before changing several settings at once. EA’s handling and gameplay overview discusses the intended steering and grip changes.

Check compatibility before choosing a controller or wheel
EA’s supported-device information is platform-specific. It lists the PS5 DualSense Wireless Controller as supported and identifies supported wheel hardware, with default PC presets for selected models. Check the current F1 25 device list for your platform before relying on compatibility or automatic mappings.
Compatibility and preset support tell you whether a device is listed and how it may be mapped; they do not show that one device is smoother or faster for every player. If comparing a controller with a wheel, weigh platform support and setup effort alongside available input range, feedback feel, comfort, cost, and space. EA’s listings are not comparative performance tests.
