For routine cleaning, wipe the outside of your DualSense with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid solvents, alcohol, and chemically treated wipes or cloths: Sony warns these can damage or discolor the controller’s exterior.
What to use for routine cleaning
Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the controller’s exterior. Sony’s North American DualSense manual gives that as its cleaning instruction. A clean, plain microfiber cloth is one option, but Sony does not require microfiber or endorse a particular brand. Sony’s North American DualSense support manual
What to avoid
- Solvents and chemicals: Sony’s North American manual warns against solvents, other chemicals, and chemically treated cleaning cloths.
- Thinner, benzine, and alcohol: Sony’s current English India manual specifically names these substances and also cautions against wipes, chemical cloths, and other products that contain them. Sony’s English India DualSense manual
- Volatile substances: Sony cautions against applying substances such as insecticide to the controller.
- Prolonged contact with rubber or vinyl: Sony warns that leaving the controller in contact with these materials for a long time can affect its exterior.
Sony says these care precautions help prevent the exterior from deteriorating or discoloring. Do not spray liquid onto the controller or use alcohol wipes; those methods conflict with Sony’s warnings.
How to clean it safely
- Choose a soft, dry cloth.
- Wipe the outside of the controller with the cloth.
- Stop if cleaning would require a liquid, chemical, or treated wipe; Sony’s manuals do not provide a method for using those on the controller.
For grime in gaps or disinfection
Sony’s manuals do not specify how to remove residue from seams or button gaps, or how to disinfect the controller. They also do not provide an authorized disassembly-based cleaning procedure. Do not disassemble or modify the controller unless its manual authorizes it. For a method beyond dry exterior wiping, consult the manual supplied with your controller or contact PlayStation Support.

Follow the manual for your region and revision
Sony’s North American manual recommends a soft, dry cloth and broadly cautions against solvents and other chemicals. Its current English India manual specifically names thinner, benzine, and alcohol and warns against products containing them. Follow the instructions in the manual supplied for your controller’s region and revision.
