To set a custom thumbnail for a 24/7 Indian music YouTube live stream, open the stream’s details in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, upload your image in the thumbnail area, and save before the broadcast begins. A verified account is required for custom thumbnails. YouTube’s exact controls can vary, so confirm the saved image on the stream details or watch page and preview the broadcast in Live Control Room.
Before you upload: check channel eligibility
- YouTube requires a verified account to use custom thumbnails. See YouTube’s custom thumbnail requirements.
- Live streaming has separate eligibility requirements: the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Review YouTube’s live-streaming guidance.
How to change a scheduled live stream thumbnail
- Sign in to YouTube Studio and choose Create → Go live to open Live Control Room.
- For a stream that has not started, open Manage and select the scheduled stream. If you have not scheduled it yet, create or schedule the stream first. YouTube lets you enter stream details during setup or edit them in the stream settings; see Manage live stream settings.
- Open the stream’s editing or details view and find the thumbnail area. Upload the prepared image, then save the changes. YouTube’s general computer workflow is Content → select the video → Thumbnail → Upload file → Save, but a live stream’s editing controls are in Live Control Room or its stream settings rather than necessarily in the regular Content-list view. The available labels may vary by interface.
- Reopen the stream details or watch page to check the result. Thumbnail updates can take time to appear, according to YouTube Help.
- Before going live, return to Live Control Room and check the stream preview. If you use an encoder, connect it with the stream URL and key shown for that stream. YouTube recommends setting up ahead of time and previewing before the broadcast; see Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
If the stream is already live
YouTube’s help explains how to edit stream details, but does not establish that every account can change a live stream’s thumbnail while a broadcast is active. For a reliable result, set and verify the thumbnail before starting. If you need to adjust it during a broadcast, check the stream’s available controls in Live Control Room and confirm the change on the watch page; do not assume it has taken effect until it appears.
What size should a YouTube live stream thumbnail be?
YouTube’s current video-thumbnail recommendations list 3840 × 2160 pixels, a minimum width of 640 pixels, JPG or PNG format, and a 16:9 aspect ratio. The stated upload limits are 50 MB on desktop and 2 MB for mobile video thumbnails. Limits can depend on the device used to upload and may change, so check YouTube’s current thumbnail guidance if an upload is rejected.

For an Indian music stream, the thumbnail can communicate the genre or mood with appropriate imagery—such as instruments or performers—provided you have the rights to use those images and the design accurately represents the stream. Keep any text readable when the thumbnail is small. These are design suggestions, not additional YouTube upload requirements.

The image must follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines. YouTube lists nudity or sexual content, hate speech, violence, and harmful or dangerous content among reasons a thumbnail may be rejected. Repeated violations can result in loss of custom-thumbnail privileges for 30 days or account termination; see the policy details.
What “24/7” does—and does not—mean for YouTube
A custom thumbnail changes the stream’s presentation; it does not keep the broadcast running or guarantee that a continuous stream will be archived as one video. YouTube’s encoder instructions say streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That statement does not establish what will happen to a stream lasting 24 hours or longer. Before planning continuous operation, verify YouTube’s current limits and archive behavior, and plan for music rights, encoder continuity, power and network backup, and monitoring. Final checks before the music stream starts
- Confirm the thumbnail is saved and visible on the stream details or watch page.
- Check that the image and every music recording or performance in the stream are cleared for your intended use. A thumbnail does not grant music rights.
- For an encoder broadcast, YouTube’s live-streaming tips recommend arranging the encoder at least two hours ahead, starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start, checking accessibility, previewing in Live Control Room, and monitoring audio and video quality.
