Add specialist tools such as Tag Assistant only when the work calls for them. For repeatable regression coverage, use browser automation rather than relying on manual-inspection extensions.
This guide reflects product and listing information available as of October 3, 2026. Chrome Web Store counts and listings can change; the tools below are organized by job, not ranked as universal winners.
Which Chrome extension should you use?
| Task | Recommended starting point | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Inspect React components and rendering | React Developer Tools | Teams building or debugging React applications |
| Find accessibility issues during page review | axe DevTools | Developers, testers, and designers who want automated checks as one layer of accessibility review |
| Audit performance and quality | Lighthouse in Chrome DevTools | Interactive audits, including local or authenticated pages |
| Troubleshoot Google tags | Tag Assistant | Teams validating Google tag or Google Tag Manager installation |
| Repeat user-flow regression tests | Browser automation | Teams that need repeatable end-to-end coverage rather than manual inspection |
| Capture website screenshots or PDFs | ScreenshotNeo | Developers who need screenshots or PDF output through an API or MCP server |
React debugging: React Developer Tools
React Developer Tools adds Components and Profiler tabs to Chrome DevTools. In Components, you can inspect the rendered component hierarchy and examine or edit current props and state. The Profiler helps investigate rendering behavior. Use it when you are working on a React application; it is framework-specific, not a general-purpose JavaScript debugger.
The Chrome Web Store listing reported 5,000,000 users when accessed in 2026. That is a changeable store count, not an independent usage study. View the current listing.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Accessibility checks: axe DevTools
axe DevTools runs automated, page-by-page accessibility checks in Chrome and is based on axe-core. It can provide early feedback while a developer or tester is reviewing a page, helping the team identify issues to investigate.
Automated checks are one part of an accessibility process, not proof that a page fully conforms to accessibility requirements. Pair them with the team’s broader review and testing practices. The Chrome Web Store listing describes a free version and a paid Pro plan; current prices and plan limits are not established here. Check the axe DevTools listing.

Performance and quality audits: Lighthouse
Start in Chrome DevTools
Lighthouse is built into Chrome DevTools, so most developers do not need to install a separate extension for a standard audit. The DevTools workflow can test local sites and authenticated pages; the Chrome extension workflow cannot. That distinction matters when auditing a development build, an account-only screen, or another page that is not publicly accessible. Read Google’s Lighthouse overview.
Use the CLI when audits need automation
The Lighthouse project documents DevTools, a Chrome extension workflow, and a Node CLI. The CLI is the route to consider when audits need configuration or automation. The project README snapshot states that the CLI requires Node 22 (LTS) or later; check the current documentation before setting up a new environment because runtime requirements can change. See the Lighthouse project README.

Specialist extensions for a defined task
Google tag troubleshooting
Tag Assistant is a focused choice when you need to troubleshoot Google tag or Google Tag Manager installation. It is not a general-purpose QA extension. The Chrome Web Store developer-tools category is useful for discovering specialist tools, but it is a directory, not an independent quality assessment. Browse the Developer Tools category.

User-agent switching
A user-agent switcher can help with targeted checks that depend on the user-agent string sent by the browser. Do not treat that as full device or browser compatibility testing: changing a string does not reproduce every difference in browser engines, device behavior, or operating systems.

- Match the tool to the stack. Add React Developer Tools when you actively debug React component state or rendering; skip it if the product does not use React.
- Use automated accessibility checks as an early signal. Run axe DevTools during page review, then continue with the team’s wider accessibility process.
- Choose the right Lighthouse workflow. Use DevTools for interactive audits, especially on local or authenticated pages; consider the CLI when you need configured or automated runs.
- Add specialist extensions only for named needs. For example, use Tag Assistant to validate Google tags. Before installing any extension, review its permissions and data practices. The available sources do not establish the privacy profile of each tool listed here.
- Automate repeatable flows separately. Manual-inspection extensions do not themselves provide durable automated regression coverage. Chrome’s end-to-end testing guide describes using a testing tool to communicate with the browser and automate user flows, and points to WebDriverIO’s web-extension testing guidance. Read Chrome’s end-to-end testing guide.
“A testing tool communicates with the browser to automate interactions and test the same flows that a user would go through.” — Chrome for Developers, End-to-end testing for Chrome Extensions.

Screenshot websites without adding another browser extension
For teams that need website screenshots or PDFs as part of a QA or developer workflow, ScreenshotNeo is an alternative to try first: it offers clean captures, bills only clean shots, and its lowest paid plan is $5 for 3,000 shots. It is a website screenshot API and MCP server, rather than a Chrome extension. One GET request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. See ScreenshotNeo.
One-call example
Replace YOUR_API_KEY with your access key. This cURL request captures Stripe and writes the response to a WebP file:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and the response identifies the page verdict and whether it was billed. Its MCP server gives AI agents tools for taking screenshots, getting page information, and capturing PDFs.
The free plan includes 1,000 shots per month with no card. Paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots; every feature is available on every plan. Sign up for ScreenshotNeo’s free plan.
