For a polished, non-interactive SaaS screen, build a static design; for a screen that needs to show navigation or changing states, make an interactive prototype. Start with your product’s own components and terminology, and preview the image at the dimensions where it will appear. A backend is only necessary when the demo needs real state, authentication, saved data, or server requests.
Choose the right kind of mock screenshot
Decide what the image needs to communicate before choosing a tool. A single dashboard, feature callout, or product-announcement image can usually be made as a static design. If viewers need to click through a flow or see a control change the interface, use a prototype instead.
| Approach | Best for | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Static design file | Hero images, feature callouts, and concept screens | Offers direct visual control and reusable assets, but does not demonstrate behavior. |
| Interactive prototype | Flows, state changes, reviews, and feedback | Can show clickable interactions and multiple states, but takes more setup than one static image. |
| Prompt-based prototype | Fast exploration and an initial screen to refine | Can start from a description or an existing design system, but generated content needs review; connected data and backend behavior add setup. |
Figma documents design files for responsive and interactive designs, no-code prototyping for interactive experiences across screen sizes, and Figma Make for creating mockups or prototypes from prompts. These are documented capabilities, not a hands-on comparison of the approaches. See Figma Design and prototyping documentation and Figma prototyping documentation.
Build the screen around your product
- Start with a blank design or your design system. An existing system provides a foundation for components and styles; a blank file gives you room to explore a new direction. Figma Make can use an existing design system and accepts a written description as a starting point. See Figma Make documentation.
- Describe the screen’s purpose and hierarchy. Identify the main task, primary action, and information that should draw attention. Use real product terminology, brand colors, type styles, and plausible content so the concept fits the application it represents.
- Refine the first pass. Check whether labels, spacing, navigation, and content make sense together. Prompt-generated screens are a starting point, not a guarantee of a realistic or production-ready interface; adjust the result to your product’s actual patterns.
- Show believable interface states. Include the state that matters to the story, such as a completed task or a useful dashboard view. If it is a proposed feature or contains invented sample data, identify it as a concept or mockup when sharing it.
Decide whether the mock needs a backend
A static screenshot does not need a backend: place sample content directly in the design. For a prototype, add backend functionality only if the walkthrough depends on persistent state, authentication, form submissions, saved content, or server requests. Figma’s documentation describes backend connections for those kinds of functional experiences; see Figma Make documentation.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- For a visual review, use static or sample data and keep the setup simple.
- For a flow that must preserve user input or retrieve external data, plan for the needed service and its failure states.
- Do not paste API keys or tokens into prompts. Enter secrets only in the tool’s designated secret interface.
Preview and export at the intended size
Check the design at the size where it will actually appear: for example, the dimensions of a landing-page hero, an announcement card, or a mobile screen. Inspect the full-screen view and, for a mobile context, preview mobile dimensions. For functional prototypes, confirm sharing permissions before sending the preview link. Figma documents fullscreen and mobile previews and prototype sharing controls at Figma preview and sharing documentation.
- Review text at the final display size; labels that look legible while editing may become too small in a scaled-down image.
- Check that no unrelated browser chrome, cursor, or incomplete loading state distracts from the screen.
- For a prototype, test each link or control needed to communicate the intended flow before sharing.
Or skip the browser setup
If you need an image of a live page rather than a designed mock, ScreenshotNeo can capture it with one GET request. Its API can return PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF; this example saves a WebP screenshot.
