What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Usually, no—not a standard web clipper by itself. Obsidian and Notion’s documented clipping workflows are started by a person on the page. Obsidian can automatically select a template based on a page’s URL or metadata, but that is not a scheduled visit or save. For recurring captures, use a separate scheduling or browser-automation workflow, and check whether it requires the browser to stay open.
First, what do you mean by “automatic”?
“Automatic” can describe three different things: choosing a template, saving after you invoke a clipper, or revisiting and saving a page on a recurring schedule. Only the last one captures changing pages at set times without someone starting each capture.
- Automatic template selection: the tool chooses how to clip a page based on its URL or metadata.
- Automatic saving after you start: a user invokes the extension, then it processes and saves the page.
- Scheduled capture: a tool revisits a page and saves it at specified times or intervals.
What Obsidian and Notion document
Obsidian Web Clipper
Obsidian’s capture documentation describes opening the extension on the current page and extracting data using a template: “When you open the extension, Web Clipper extracts data from the current web page following the settings in your template.” (Obsidian Help: Clip web pages.) Its template triggers can select a template according to the current page’s URL or schema.org data (Obsidian Help: Templates). That helps choose what to extract when clipping; the documentation does not describe a recurring scheduler that revisits and saves pages.
Notion Web Clipper
Notion’s help describes saving a web page to a workspace through its browser extension. The reviewed help page does not describe unattended scheduled capture (Notion Help Center: Save web pages with Notion Web Clipper). This is a statement about the documented workflow, not a claim that no integration or future feature could ever add scheduling.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
How to schedule page captures
If you need recurring saves, use a separate capture or automation tool rather than treating a standard clipper’s template rules as a scheduler.
Dedicated browser extension
Auto Page Capture, a separate Manifest V3 extension for Chrome and Microsoft Edge, documents one-time, interval-based, weekly, and monthly schedules for multiple items. It can save MHTML, HTML, PDF, or a full-page image, and supports optional actions before saving. These are capabilities described by the project, not independent reliability tests (Auto Page Capture project documentation).

Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Important limit: scheduled captures run only while the browser is running. If it is fully closed at the scheduled time, that run is skipped. When the browser restarts, the extension resumes from the next upcoming schedule rather than replaying missed runs. That makes it unsuitable if you need captures to happen while your computer or browser is off.
Browser automation
Browser automation can schedule a workflow that opens a page and saves it, but a recurring shortcut is not automatically a dependable archive. Claude in Chrome, for example, documents recurring schedules for shortcuts (Claude Help: Get started with Claude in Chrome). Verify that the specific workflow actually navigates to the page, waits for dynamic content, saves in your required format and destination, and has access to any required login or permissions. Also check how it handles a missed run.

Choose a method that fits the page and schedule
| Method | What it automates | Browser requirement and missed runs | Output and key checks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Obsidian or Notion Web Clipper | User-invoked clipping; Obsidian can also choose a template from page characteristics. | Not documented as a recurring scheduler in the reviewed help pages. | Use when a person can initiate each capture and the workspace is the desired destination. |
| Auto Page Capture | One-time and recurring page captures. | Browser must be running; a run missed while fully closed is skipped, not replayed. | MHTML, HTML, PDF, or full-page image; confirm that the format preserves what you need. |
| Browser automation workflow | Potentially a scheduled sequence of navigation, waiting, interaction, and saving. | Depends on the automation and its schedule behavior; verify missed-run handling. | Check rendering, authentication, permissions, destination, and file format in the actual workflow. |
For a report or dashboard that changes over time, test the capture with a representative page before relying on it. A rendered PDF or image preserves appearance; HTML or MHTML may preserve more page structure, while an extracted clip may focus on selected content. Dynamic pages may need a wait for a selector or for content to finish loading, and protected pages need valid sign-in access. Decide whether a skipped run is acceptable: if not, choose a system that can run independently of an open desktop browser and has a recovery or alerting plan.
Troubleshooting scheduled captures
- No capture occurred: check whether the browser was open at the scheduled time. Auto Page Capture skips a run missed while the browser is closed and does not replay it after restart.
- The saved page is blank or incomplete: the page may render content after initial navigation. Add an appropriate wait or pre-save action if the tool supports it, then verify the output on that page.
- The capture shows a sign-in page: confirm that the automation uses the right browser profile and has permission to access the logged-in content.
- The wrong content or template was captured: in Obsidian, review the URL or schema.org-based template trigger. Template selection affects clipping behavior, not when a page is visited.
- The file is not usable for later reference: choose an output format that matches the need—image or PDF for appearance, HTML or MHTML for page structure—and test links or dynamic content that matter.
Or skip the browser setup
For a one-off rendered screenshot or PDF, ScreenshotNeo provides a website screenshot API and MCP server. It is not a recurring scheduler or a replacement for an Obsidian or Notion workspace; it is an alternative when you want to request a capture without configuring a browser workflow. One GET request returns an image or PDF. The API accepts cookie banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; those steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, with outcome information in response headers. Its MCP server exposes screenshot tools for AI agents. There are 1,000 screenshots per month free with no card, and paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. See ScreenshotNeo and its API documentation.
