To watch a vMix playlist stream from another PC on the same local network, use vMix LiveLAN: select it in Stream Settings, start the stream, then open the LiveLAN address in a browser on the second computer. For a separate check of what YouTube is receiving, use YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. LiveLAN shows the vMix program output; YouTube’s dashboard reports platform-side stream health.

Watch the vMix output on a second PC with LiveLAN

  1. Check the playlist in vMix. Confirm the List input is playing and is included in the program output. A vMix List input can play video and audio files; its controls include auto-next, loop, shuffle, item selection, disabling items, and exporting the list as an M3U file. vMix List input documentation.
  2. Start LiveLAN. In vMix, open Stream Settings, choose LiveLAN as the destination, select a quality/bitrate appropriate for your network, and start the stream. Use View Stream in the stream settings to see the address. vMix documents the URL pattern as http://x.x.x.x:8088/livelan; the IP address is that of the vMix computer. vMix Stream Settings documentation.
  3. Open the stream from the other computer. Connect the second PC to the same local network, open a supported browser, and enter the LiveLAN address. Both computers need local network reachability. If the page does not load, verify the address shown by View Stream and check local network and firewall access.

LiveLAN is intended for local-network viewing and uses HLS internally. It is useful for checking what the program output looks and sounds like, but it is not frame-accurate confidence monitoring: vMix says browser delay of around 10 seconds is typical. vMix LiveLAN documentation.

Check YouTube’s view separately

Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room to review the incoming stream’s health or status and any displayed errors. YouTube also provides real-time analytics there. This is a platform-side check, distinct from watching the vMix output over LiveLAN. YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.

Plan network capacity and understand the delay

vMix’s guidance estimates LiveLAN bandwidth at approximately the configured stream bitrate multiplied by the number of viewers, plus around 10–20% overhead. For example, at 2.5 Mbps, one viewer needs about 2.5 Mbps before overhead; the additional capacity is a planning allowance based on vMix’s guidance, not a separate measurement. More viewers increase the demand. vMix local network streaming guidance.

  • Do not treat the browser view as a frame-synchronous or low-latency confidence monitor.

Monitor from outside the local network safely

vMix documents LiveLAN for local-network use. For an off-site second PC, arrange a secure private network path with your network administrator; the documentation does not prescribe one universal VPN setup. Avoid exposing the Web Controller directly to the public internet. vMix says LAN-only restriction is enabled by default and warns that remote access requires adequate firewall security if that restriction is disabled. vMix Web Controller documentation.

The Web Controller can provide control features such as switching, shortcuts, titles, and tally, so access matters even if your immediate goal is viewing. vMix supports password protection and per-page access choices; it recommends configuring a password and making only the LiveLAN page available without a password when that exception is needed. Check the labels and available settings in your installed vMix version before changing access controls.

Troubleshoot a missing or incorrect picture

  • The browser page will not open: Confirm LiveLAN is selected and running in Stream Settings, use View Stream to get the current address, and check that the second PC is on the same reachable local network. Review firewall rules narrowly; do not open broad public access.
  • The playlist is stopped or the wrong content appears: Confirm the List input is playing and included in the program output. Check item selection, disabled items, auto-next, and loop settings.
  • LiveLAN looks right but YouTube reports a problem: Check Live Control Room’s stream health, status, and error messages. The local browser view and YouTube’s platform-side report answer different questions.
  • The off-site viewer cannot connect: Ask the network administrator to provide a secure private path and verify restricted Web Controller access and authentication. Do not solve this by publishing the controller to the open internet.
  • The viewer sees delay or the network struggles: Expect around 10 seconds of typical browser delay and reassess bitrate, viewer count, and available network capacity, including the documented overhead allowance.
