Install an OBS plugin that matches the architecture and OBS version of the OBS build actually running on your dedicated PC. A 64-bit plugin is not automatically compatible with 32-bit OBS, or vice versa—and choosing plugin bitness is not a way to improve stream performance.
What matters: match the plugin to your OBS build
OBS’s Plugins Guide identifies platform, architecture, and OBS version as compatibility factors. A plugin may fail if it was built for a different architecture, is unavailable for your operating system, or has not been updated for your OBS release. Check the plugin author’s documentation or release notes for all three before installing.
Do not infer OBS’s architecture solely from whether Windows itself is 32-bit or 64-bit. The current OBS download page lists OBS Studio 32.2.2 and Windows 10 and 11 support, but the retrieved Windows listing does not state the installer’s architecture. Confirm the build installed on your specific PC and match the plugin to that build.
Check these four compatibility points

How to check before installing or updating
- Confirm the OBS build. Identify the OBS installation and build running on the dedicated PC; do not use the computer’s operating-system bitness as a substitute for checking OBS itself.
- Read the plugin’s current documentation. Verify its supported platform, architecture, and OBS versions. If any of those details are missing, ask the plugin author or use a release whose compatibility is documented rather than guessing.
- Compare versions before an OBS upgrade. OBS Studio 32.0 release notes say OBS will not load plugins built for a newer OBS release, as a safeguard against compatibility problems. The Plugins Guide also advises checking plugin documentation.
- Keep a known-good setup available. Before updating a production PC, note the working OBS and plugin versions. After the update, verify the scenes and the full audio/video chain before relying on it for a scheduled broadcast.
Why a dedicated streaming PC should be updated carefully
OBS plugins are commonly dynamic libraries loaded when OBS starts. The OBS Developer Guide explains that later OBS versions may require plugins to be recompiled. On a PC used for scheduled streams, check plugin compatibility before updating OBS, then verify the complete scene and audio/video workflow before the next broadcast. This is a precaution based on OBS’s compatibility guidance, not a guarantee that any particular update will fail.

Plugin bitness is not a performance setting
Switching between 32-bit and 64-bit plugins is not a method for increasing stream quality or reducing CPU use. OBS says system demands vary with the encoder, output resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity; meeting its basic system requirements does not guarantee that a machine can handle a particular stream. Run OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard as a starting point, then validate the settings with your actual scenes and stream workload. See the official System Requirements.
One version-specific NVIDIA driver note
OBS Studio 32.2 release notes dated July 21, 2026 state that the minimum supported driver version is now 570 in the context of an NVIDIA SDK update. This is a release-specific note for the affected NVIDIA functionality, not a universal driver requirement for every OBS installation. Check the OBS Studio 32.2 Release Notes if that functionality applies to your setup.
