Hide the header, capture the page, then restore it
This Python example uses Selenium’s current browsing-context screenshot method. It assumes the target page has a header matching header.site-header; that selector is only an example.

)execute_script runs JavaScript in Selenium’s selected window or frame, and save_screenshot captures the current browsing context. Keeping the change inside try/finally restores the original inline style even if screenshot capture raises an exception. Choose a selector that identifies the right header
Selenium has no universal selector for sticky headers. Inspect the page’s DOM and use a selector that uniquely identifies the intended element. A broad selector such as header can match the wrong element—or more than one—on pages with multiple headers. If find_element cannot find the selector, confirm the page has loaded and that you are in the right window or frame.

Choose the screenshot scope
- Whole browsing context:
driver.save_screenshot("screenshot.png")captures the current browsing context. Use it when you want the overall browser view. - One element: Selenium also provides element screenshot operations. Use an element screenshot when the artifact should contain only that element, rather than the overall view. See Selenium’s screenshot documentation.
Why use visibility instead of removing the header?
The example applies visibility: hidden with !important so the header is not shown in the capture, then restores the saved inline style. Whether display: none is preferable depends on the page’s layout; it can affect the space the header occupies. Check the resulting image in the browser and driver combination your project uses.
Common problems and fixes
- The header still appears: Verify that the selector matched the visible sticky element, not a separate header or wrapper. Check the captured image in your target browser and driver.
- The wrong content changes position: The selected element may be a wrapper or the wrong header. Inspect the DOM and narrow the selector to the actual sticky element.
- The style is not restored: Keep restoration in
finally. The example restores the original entire inlinestyleattribute—or removes it if the element had none—so existing inline declarations are not left overwritten. - The script targets the wrong page or frame: Selenium executes JavaScript in the selected window or frame. Switch to the intended browsing context before locating and modifying the header.

Will hiding a header with visibility hidden remove its layout space?
The example hides the header visually; whether a different method such as display none is appropriate depends on the page layout.
