In Safari on iPhone, take a screenshot and leave Markup unused to keep drawn notes and shapes off the image. To capture the whole webpage rather than only what is visible, open the screenshot preview and tap Full Page. If by “annotations” you mean distracting items on the webpage, hide those separately with Safari’s Hide Distracting Items control before taking the screenshot.
First, distinguish screenshot marks from webpage clutter
Markup is the optional tool for drawing or adding text to a screenshot after capture. Avoid opening or using it if you want an unmarked screenshot. Safari’s Distraction Control does something different: it hides selected items on the webpage before capture. It is not a switch for removing Markup annotations already drawn on an image.
Capture the whole webpage without adding annotations
- Open the webpage in Safari and wait for the content you want to appear.
- Take a screenshot. On an iPhone with Face ID, quickly press and release the side button and volume-up button together. On an iPhone with a Home button, quickly press and release the side button and Home button together.
- Open the screenshot preview if it does not open automatically, then tap Full Page. This captures content beyond the visible screen, such as an entire webpage in Safari, as Apple Support describes in its iPhone screenshot instructions.
- Inspect the long preview and crop it if needed. Do not tap Markup or use its drawing and text tools.
- Choose Save to Photos for an image or Save PDF to Files for a PDF.
Hide distracting webpage items before capture
- In Safari, open the Page menu and choose Hide Distracting Items.
- Select the webpage item you want to hide and tap Hide.
- Take the screenshot using the steps above. Hidden items can be restored later from the Page menu.

Choose the right capture and file format

If you want a PDF directly from a webpage, Apple also documents Safari’s webpage-to-PDF workflow. The location of Safari’s share control can depend on whether the tab layout is at the top or bottom.

What to expect from the screenshot preview
Apple’s current support guidance describes quick tools after capture in iOS 26. In iOS 18 and earlier, a temporary thumbnail appears at the lower left: tap it to open the screenshot, or swipe left to dismiss it. Preview and menu labels can vary between iOS releases and Safari layouts. Screenshots are saved in Photos; a Full Page capture can also be saved as a PDF in Files. See Apple’s screenshot instructions for the hardware-button combinations.
Troubleshooting
- Only the visible screen was captured: Open the screenshot preview and choose Full Page for webpage content beyond the screen. This option is for supported webpage captures in Safari.
- The button combination does not work: Use the pairing for your device: side button plus volume-up on Face ID models, or side button plus Home on models with a Home button. Press and release both quickly.
- You cannot find the screenshot preview: In iOS 18 and earlier, look for the temporary lower-left thumbnail; tapping it opens the screenshot. In iOS 26, Apple describes quick tools appearing after capture. Layout and labels may differ by release.
- You want marks removed from an existing screenshot: The Apple guidance cited here does not establish a universal removal or undo workflow across iOS versions. To ensure a clean capture, avoid using Markup before saving.
- You meant popups or other page elements: Use Safari’s Page menu → Hide Distracting Items before taking the screenshot; this is separate from Markup.
