Schedule the event in YouTube Studio, then send the prerecorded video to it at broadcast time using an encoder or playout service. Scheduling creates the event and its watch page; it does not play a file by itself. You need the event’s stream URL and key, and you should check the incoming feed in Live Control Room before clicking Go live.

Before you schedule: check live-stream access

Your YouTube channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. If you are enabling live streaming for the first time, YouTube says activation can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave this check until the day of the event. See YouTube’s encoder guide and its live-streaming tips.

The workflow is the same for creators in India as elsewhere; the researched YouTube guidance does not identify a separate India-only Studio sequence.

Schedule the YouTube event in Studio

  1. Sign in to YouTube Studio and select Create → Go Live.
  2. Open Manage, then select Schedule stream.
  3. Choose to reuse settings from an earlier stream or create a new event.
  4. Enter the event details, choose its visibility, and set the planned date and time. Save the event.

The scheduled event gives you an upcoming watch page that you can share; viewers may opt in to a reminder. Scheduling does not start playback or make a prerecorded file appear as a live feed.

Send the prerecorded video to the scheduled event

Choose an encoder or playout source

You need a source that can send the finished video as a live feed. This might be encoder software running on your computer, hardware, or a cloud playout service. The right choice depends on whether you need unattended or continuous playback, where the playback should run, and how much control you need over the feed. YouTube’s encoder guide describes software and hardware encoders and lists cloud playout options, including Gyre for 24/7 prerecorded streams. These are examples, not requirements.

Configure the chosen source with the scheduled event’s YouTube stream URL and stream key. The exact steps for automating a local file vary by encoder and its current version; YouTube’s general guide does not establish identical controls across different tools.

Start and verify the feed

  1. Start the encoder or playout source early enough to test it.
  2. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, wait for the incoming stream preview.
  3. Check the picture and audio. When the preview is ready and the event is due to begin, click Go live.
  4. When the broadcast is over, end the stream in Studio and stop the source.

YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours before the event and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time, leaving time to resolve problems before viewers arrive. Its network guidance recommends upload bandwidth with 20% headroom over the stream bitrate. See YouTube’s network guidance.

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume an event schedule alone will create an archive: the feed must be sent and the stream must run.

Can YouTube Studio play the recording automatically?

No. Studio schedules the event, but a separate encoder or suitable playout source must send the video. The stream URL and key connect that source to the event. If you want automated local-file playback, confirm that your chosen encoder supports it and follow that product’s current instructions; the YouTube event workflow does not specify one universal local-file procedure.

Do you need OBS or a special encoder?

You need an encoder or playout source, but the general YouTube workflow does not require one particular brand or device. A computer-based encoder can suit a broadcast you can supervise and control locally. Hardware or cloud playout may suit other setups. YouTube also lists the AJA HELO Plus hardware encoder, with optional PlayToStream functionality for scheduling prerecorded media, and Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 prerecorded streams. Neither is necessary for every scheduled event.

Monetization and copyright considerations

Scheduling an event does not make a channel eligible for monetization. YouTube monetization features depend on acceptance into the YouTube Partner Program and eligibility for the specific feature. YouTube also says live ad slots are not guaranteed to serve. Check YouTube’s monetization guidance for India for applicable requirements.

Before broadcasting, make sure you have the rights needed for the video, music, and other material in the recording. A scheduled event is still a YouTube live stream; scheduling does not bypass copyright rules or guarantee that a stream will remain available.

Troubleshooting a scheduled prerecorded stream

  • No preview appears: Confirm that the encoder is running and is configured with the stream URL and key for this scheduled event. Allow time for the feed to reach Live Control Room.
  • The event exists, but nothing is playing: The schedule creates the event, not playback. Start the encoder or playout source that supplies the video.
  • The preview is unstable or poor quality: Check the encoder’s output and network connection. YouTube recommends 20% upload headroom beyond the stream bitrate; start early enough to monitor and adjust.
  • You cannot enable live streaming: Verify the channel and check for a live-streaming restriction in the prior 90 days. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
  • The recording does not start automatically: Confirm that the chosen encoder or playout service supports the automation you expect. The Studio schedule by itself does not automate local-file playback.
  • You expected ads or revenue: Check feature-level eligibility and YPP status. A live ad slot is not guaranteed to serve.
