You usually do not need a static IP address or DDNS to keep a standard YouTube encoder stream running when your Indian broadband connection’s public IP changes. The encoder initiates an outbound connection to YouTube using a server URL and stream key; it does not normally need a fixed address that viewers can connect to at home. The bigger risk is a broadband interruption during the change: your encoder and computer must recover, and the stream may be interrupted. If the story stream must continue even when your home connection is unavailable, send the prerecorded videos from a cloud service instead.
Why a changing IP usually does not stop an encoder stream
A conventional setup sends video from an encoder at home to YouTube. The encoder opens the connection outward to YouTube’s ingest server, using the server URL and stream key from YouTube Studio. Your viewers connect to YouTube, not to your home broadband address. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance describes this server URL-and-key workflow.
A dynamic public IP is generally compatible with ordinary outbound internet access. A static IP is mainly useful when other people or systems need to reach a service hosted inside your home network, such as a remotely accessible server. ISP guidance on static IP addresses describes that distinction.
So, if your IP changes but the broadband connection remains available and the encoder reconnects successfully, the IP change alone need not require reconfiguring YouTube. If the connection drops during the change, however, the encoder may lose its stream. Whether it reconnects—and whether YouTube resumes the same broadcast—depends on the encoder, computer, connection, and stream setup. There is no general guarantee of seamless recovery.

Static IP and DDNS: when they help, and when they do not
For sending a stream out to YouTube
For the standard outbound encoder workflow, a static IP or DDNS is not ordinarily needed just because your broadband provider changes the public address. The encoder connects to YouTube; viewers do not need to find your home network.
For reaching a service inside your home
DDNS keeps a hostname pointed at a changing IP address. It can help if you host a remote-management service, origin server, or other resource at home that must be found from outside. It does not keep broadband connected or repair an interrupted YouTube stream. It also may not solve inbound access if your provider uses carrier-grade NAT (CGNAT), which can prevent your home network from having a directly reachable public IP. Indian providers and plans can differ. The available guidance does not establish the public-IP or CGNAT policy of your particular ISP, so ask the provider about your connection if you need inbound access. That question is separate from sending an ordinary encoder stream outbound.

Set up YouTube and your encoder for recovery
- Create or schedule the live stream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. Copy the server URL and stream key shown in the stream settings, then enter them in your encoder’s streaming settings. YouTube may reload settings from a previous stream, including its key; verify the destination before going live. Treat the stream key as a password: do not share or publish it.
- Use RTMPS when your encoder supports it. In Live Control Room, check the stream settings for the RTMPS URL; YouTube says it is available through the lock icon in Stream settings. Google’s RTMPS ingestion documentation specifies an RTMPS URL, a valid YouTube ingest endpoint and application path, and port 443. RTMPS protects the transport connection; it cannot prevent a broadband outage.
- Enable reconnect and unattended restart options. Configure your encoder to reconnect after a network interruption, and configure the host operating system or device to restart the encoder if its process fails. The exact labels and capabilities vary by software and hardware, so consult the documentation for your encoder and test recovery before relying on it overnight. These settings improve recovery readiness; they do not guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast.
- Check the stream after a disruption. Once the internet connection returns, verify the encoder’s connection status and check the preview and status in Live Control Room. Confirm that the intended stream is live before leaving the setup unattended.
OBS settings and dropped frames
OBS attributes dropped frames to an unstable connection or insufficient network capacity. Its dropped-frames troubleshooting guidance documents the option “Dynamically change bitrate to manage congestion.” When congestion occurs, this can lower bitrate and reduce dropped frames, but it also reduces video quality and does not fix the underlying network issue.

- Use the dynamic-bitrate option if you accept a temporary quality reduction to help the encoder remain connected during congestion.
- Check the broadband connection and available upload capacity; a changing IP is not the only possible cause of a dropped stream.
- Do not treat a bitrate adjustment as a substitute for reconnection settings, stable power, or a reliable connection.
Choose where the prerecorded stream runs
For prerecorded stories, there are two basic architectures. The right choice depends on whether the stream must survive loss of the home broadband connection.

YouTube’s encoder help page names Gyre as an example of a cloud-based tool for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos. That mention is not a comparative evaluation or a statement of current pricing, restart behavior, or service terms; confirm those details with any provider before choosing one.

YouTube says, “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” That means you should not assume a continuous stream lasting longer than 12 hours will be kept as one complete automatic archive. Plan archive expectations around the length of each broadcast.

Troubleshooting after an IP change
- The stream went offline and did not return: Check that broadband access is back, then check whether the encoder is running and reconnecting. If needed, restart the encoder and verify the stream preview and status in Live Control Room.
- OBS reports dropped frames: Investigate connection stability and upload capacity. Dynamic bitrate may reduce dropped frames during congestion, but it lowers quality and cannot repair the underlying connection problem.
- The encoder cannot reach YouTube: Recheck the server URL and stream key in YouTube Studio, confirm the selected ingest protocol and endpoint, and check that the network allows the required connection. For RTMPS, Google documents port 443.
- You want to connect to a home device remotely: That is an inbound-access problem, unlike the encoder’s outbound stream. DDNS may help track a changing public address, but CGNAT can prevent direct inbound access; ask your ISP what your plan supports.
- You need the stream to continue during a home broadband outage: A local encoder depends on that connection. Consider a cloud-hosted prerecorded-streaming service, and verify its current YouTube support, recovery behavior, monitoring, cost, and terms.
