OBS has two different settings that people may mean by “playlist transition times.” To control how long a scene change takes, set the transition duration in OBS’s Scene Transitions controls. To play one or more videos repeatedly, configure a Media Source or VLC Video source. OBS’s playlist loop and shuffle controls govern playback order; they do not set a separate clock time for each playlist item or a crossfade duration between items.
Choose the setting that matches what you want to change

These controls solve different problems. A scene transition duration is not a schedule for when the next playlist video begins. The OBS documentation describes playlist looping, shuffling, and visibility behavior, but does not document per-item clock scheduling or a crossfade duration through those playlist controls.
Set up a single video to repeat
- In OBS, add a Media Source to the scene that will show the video.
- Select the source and open its properties.
- Choose the video file you want to play.
- Enable Loop if you want the file to repeat after playback completes.
- Confirm the video appears in the preview and test that it begins again after it ends.
A single Media Source is the simpler choice when you have one recording to repeat. It does not create a multi-file playlist or a timed scene change.

Set up a playlist of multiple videos
For multiple files, OBS uses the VLC Video source. VLC must be installed for this source type to be available; if you use 64-bit OBS, the OBS documentation specifies 64-bit VLC.

- Install the VLC version that matches your OBS architecture.
- In OBS, add a VLC Video source to the scene.
- Open the source properties and add the media files to its playlist.
- Leave Shuffle Playlist off for the listed order, or enable it if you want randomized playback.
- Enable Loop Playlist if the playlist should start again after its last item finishes.
- Choose the visibility behavior appropriate for your scenes: the source can stop and restart, pause and resume, or continue playing while it is not visible.
- Test playback through the end of an item and, if looping is enabled, through the end of the full playlist.
Looping applies to the playlist as a whole: it restarts when the list runs out of media. Shuffling changes the order. Neither setting assigns a specific start time to each item.
Set the duration of a scene fade or cut
- In OBS, locate the Scene Transitions controls.
- Choose a transition. OBS includes Fade and Cut among the transitions available from a fresh installation.
- Set the duration for the active transition in the duration control. A cut changes scenes immediately; a fade takes the configured time.
- If you use Quick Transitions, check their configured durations separately; they can have their own duration settings.
- Switch scenes in a test and observe the result. Adjust the duration to suit the visual effect you want.
This duration controls the change between scenes, not the time until a VLC playlist advances to its next file. OBS’s scene API also distinguishes show and hide transition durations for scene items, expressed in milliseconds; those are item visibility-animation settings, not playlist scheduling controls.

What OBS playlist settings do not establish
- No per-item clock schedule: the documented VLC playlist controls do not provide a separate time-of-day or countdown schedule for each file.
- No documented playlist crossfade duration: the cited controls describe loop, shuffle, and visibility behavior, not a crossfade setting between playlist items.
- No guarantee of gap-free playback: the documented settings do not guarantee seamless, frame-accurate transitions on every system.
- No YouTube-side transition control: these are OBS playback and scene settings. They do not imply that YouTube has a separate setting for OBS playlist transition duration.
If you need timed scene changes or custom transitions between media items, the documented settings here are not enough to specify that workflow. Advanced automation or plugins may provide other options, but the behavior of a particular plugin is not established here.

OBS controls playback and scene changes on the computer running OBS; your YouTube stream also depends on that setup continuing to operate. For an always-on channel, make sure the videos you broadcast are yours or that you have the rights to use them, and follow YouTube’s copyright and live-stream rules. Repeating a video does not itself establish that you have permission to stream it.
