To loop a Hindi news clip in OBS, add it as a Media Source and enable Loop; for multiple clips, use a VLC Video playlist and enable Loop Playlist. For YouTube Live, start with CBR encoding and a two-second keyframe interval, choose a bitrate your upload connection can sustain, then test the complete stream in YouTube’s Live Control Room before going public.
Choose how OBS should play the clips
OBS offers two practical ways to repeat local video: a Media Source for one clip, or a VLC Video source for a playlist. The single-file option is simpler; the playlist option gives you a sequence of clips and can randomize their order. VLC must be installed for the VLC Video source to appear.
Loop one clip with Media Source
- In OBS, choose the scene that will carry the broadcast. Under Sources, select + and choose Media Source.
- Create a source or select an existing one, then enable Local File and browse to the clip. OBS documents support for MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM files. Check that the chosen file plays in the source.
- Enable Loop in the Media Source properties. If you want playback to restart when the source becomes visible in the active scene, enable Restart playback when source becomes active.
- Position and size the source in the scene. Confirm the clip is visible in OBS’s program output, not only in an editor or source preview.
Loop a sequence with VLC Video
- Install VLC if it is not already installed, then restart OBS if necessary so the VLC Video source is available.
- Under Sources, choose + and select VLC Video. Add the desired files to its playlist in the order you want them played.
- Enable Loop Playlist to repeat the sequence when it reaches the end. Enable Shuffle Playlist only if you want OBS to randomize playback order.
- Check the program output and audio with the playlist running. Confirm that the transition from the last item back to the first does not create an unwanted blank scene or silent gap.

Set OBS encoder settings for YouTube Live
These settings describe the stream OBS sends to YouTube, not the encoding quality of the source file. YouTube’s published encoder guidance covers RTMP/RTMPS, H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1, with frame rates up to 60 fps. For a straightforward SDR setup, use the values below as a starting point and verify the incoming stream in Live Control Room.

- Rate control: CBR (constant bitrate), as YouTube recommends.
- Keyframe interval: 2 seconds. YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds.
- Transport: RTMPS is recommended for encrypted transport.
- SDR video: Rec. 709 color space, 8-bit depth, progressive scan, two B-frames, one reference frame, and CABAC, following YouTube’s listed guidance.
- Stereo audio: AAC or MP3 at 44.1 kHz; YouTube lists 128 Kbps as the recommended stereo bitrate.
In OBS, open Settings > Output and configure the streaming encoder options available for your selected encoder. Set the video size and frame rate under Settings > Video. Labels and available controls can differ with OBS version and encoder hardware, so match the setting names where available rather than assuming every system exposes identical options.
Choose resolution and bitrate around your upload connection
YouTube’s H.264 guidance gives the following ingestion bitrates. They are YouTube recommendations, not a guarantee that an internet connection in India—or any particular connection—can hold them steadily.

These values are YouTube’s encoder guidance current at the time of writing, not measured results for an individual broadcaster. The recommended bitrate is not automatically the right choice: select a resolution, frame rate, and bitrate that the encoder and upstream connection can sustain together. A Hindi news clip with modest motion may not need 60 fps; a lower, stable setting is preferable to a higher setting that repeatedly drops frames or disconnects.

- Run an upload-speed test on the connection and device you will use for the broadcast.
- Compare the available upstream capacity with the total stream bitrate. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend leaving 20% spare capacity beyond the total streaming bitrate.
- If the connection is shared, unstable, or lacks that headroom, reduce the bitrate and, if needed, the output resolution or frame rate. Test again rather than relying on the speed-test peak.

Connect OBS to YouTube and test before broadcasting
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select an encoder stream.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream into the corresponding stream fields in OBS. The key lets YouTube identify and accept the encoder feed; treat it like a password. Do not show it in a screenshot, overlay, or public post.
- Start streaming from OBS so the encoder feed reaches YouTube. Check the Live Control Room preview and incoming-stream status before making the broadcast public.
- Run an unlisted or private test first. Use audio and movement similar to the actual stream, then watch the preview and stream-health messages while it runs.
Use the test to verify the whole path, not just that the file plays inside OBS:
- The clip or playlist repeats without an unintended blank scene or silent interval.
- Audio is present, synchronized, and at a suitable level.
- OBS’s program output and YouTube’s preview show the intended framing and resolution.
- Live Control Room reports a healthy incoming stream.
- The upload link has headroom, and other users or devices are not saturating the shared upstream connection.
YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains the Live Control Room stream URL and key workflow. Its guidance also recommends testing and monitoring stream health during an event.

Check clip rights before looping news footage
OBS’s loop controls only repeat media; they do not grant permission to rebroadcast it. Before streaming a Hindi news clip, confirm that you have the necessary rights and that the material complies with YouTube’s applicable policies. Technical setup guidance does not determine whether a particular clip is licensed or whether a specific use is lawful in India. Do not assume that a clip being publicly viewable, short, or already circulating online makes rebroadcasting permissible.

Common problems and fixes
- The VLC Video source is missing: VLC may not be installed. Install it, restart OBS, and check the source menu again.
- The clip plays once and stops: Open the Media Source properties and enable Loop. For a VLC playlist, enable Loop Playlist.
- The picture is absent from the live output: Confirm the source is visible in the active scene and appears in OBS’s program output, then check the YouTube preview after starting the encoder.
- YouTube preview is blank or has no audio: Check the selected scene, source visibility, audio track, and OBS meters. Test the same clip and audio path again before going public.
- The stream buffers, drops frames, or loses connection: Check stream-health messages and upstream use. Reduce bitrate, resolution, or frame rate if the connection cannot sustain the chosen total bitrate with the recommended headroom.
- The image is framed incorrectly: Resize and position the source in the scene, then confirm the result in both OBS program output and YouTube’s preview.
- The key no longer works or may have been exposed: Recheck the selected stream in Live Control Room and use its current key in OBS. Keep the key private; anyone with access may be able to send a feed to that stream.
