Click Load more until the items you need are present, wait for a page-specific sign that each batch has loaded, and only then take the screenshot. Playwright’s fullPage: true captures the page’s full scrollable extent; it does not activate the page’s button or fetch content that has not appeared yet. The examples below show a bounded JavaScript workflow you can adapt to the page.
What to do before taking the screenshot
Use a locator for the page’s actual control and an observable signal that content has changed. For example, track the number of result cards before clicking, then wait until that number increases. A click completing is not by itself proof that the new items have rendered.
- Navigate to the page and wait for its initial results and Load more control to be ready.
- Choose a stable locator for the control and for the items being added. A role-and-name locator is a good option when the button has an accessible name:
page.getByRole('button', { name: 'Load more' }). - Before each click, record the current item count.
- Click, then wait for the count to increase or for another page-specific completion signal.
- Stop when you have the desired number of items, the control disappears or becomes disabled, or the site signals the end of the list.
- Capture the full page after the desired content is present.

Runnable JavaScript example
This example uses Playwright Test’s expect assertion and a maximum-click guard. Replace the URL and selectors with ones that match the page. It stops when the target count is reached or the button is gone or disabled; if the list stops progressing unexpectedly, the assertion times out rather than looping forever.

Make the completion condition fit the page
expect.poll is suitable when the list count changes after each batch. If the site exposes a loading indicator, wait for it to disappear; if you know the next expected item, wait for that item to become visible. The right signal is specific to the application—Playwright does not define a universal “Load more finished” event.

Choose a deliberate stopping rule
The target count and maximum click count prevent accidental unbounded loading. For a known finite list, you can instead stop when the button becomes disabled or disappears. If reaching the maximum number of clicks is an error for your use case, add a final assertion that checks the target count and fails clearly when it was not reached.
Choose the right screenshot scope
- Full page:

A full-page capture does not cause more results to load. Complete the interaction loop first, then capture the scope you actually need.

When loading depends on scrolling
Some pages load more items only when the list or a sentinel near its bottom enters view. Playwright says most actions scroll their target into view automatically, and its guidance discusses manual scrolling for cases such as triggering an infinite list. See Playwright’s scrolling guidance.
If clicking the visible control does not load more, check whether the results live in a nested scrolling container or whether the page requires scrolling to the bottom. Scroll a relevant target into view using a locator, then wait for the same observable content change before proceeding. Do not assume a fixed delay alone means the new batch is ready.

Edge cases to account for
- Button state changes: the button may become disabled during a request. Wait for the page’s loading or results state, rather than repeatedly clicking while it is busy.
- No progress after a click: the selector may be wrong, the request may have failed, or the list may be at its end. Give the state wait a timeout and report the count and button state when it fails.
- Virtualized lists: some interfaces render only the visible subset even after many items have been fetched. A full-page screenshot may therefore not show every previously loaded result. Verify how the target page renders its list; if necessary, capture sections separately while scrolling.
- Changing content: if result cards are replaced rather than appended, a count-increase condition will not work. Wait for a known new item, a changed page marker, or another stable signal instead.
- Large pages: loading many batches and capturing the entire page can consume substantial time and memory. Set a realistic item target and choose element or viewport capture when a full-page image is unnecessary.
Troubleshooting
- “Load more” cannot be found: inspect the rendered accessible role and name, or use a locator based on a stable attribute. The button may be outside the current state, hidden, or named differently than its visible text.
- The click succeeds but the screenshot is missing items: the screenshot likely ran before content rendering completed, or the page loads only on scroll. Wait for a result-specific signal after each click and verify the final count before capturing.
- The wait times out: confirm that the selector matches result items, that the site actually appends rather than replaces items, and that a further batch is available. A timeout is useful evidence that the chosen completion condition did not occur; do not simply increase it without checking page behavior.
- The loop never reaches the target: the target may exceed the available results, or the control may disappear or disable at the end. Treat that end state as a valid stop if the requested capture is meant to include all available items.
- The screenshot omits earlier items: check for virtualized rendering. A page may retain loaded data while removing off-screen DOM nodes, so full-page capture alone may not include every item.
