To use an ATEM Mini Pro for a live stream, connect your HDMI sources, then choose one of two paths: stream directly from the switcher over Ethernet using ATEM Software Control, or connect its USB-C output to a computer and select it as a webcam in software such as OBS. The direct path does not require streaming software on a computer; the USB webcam path lets computer software manage the stream. Test the complete setup before going live.
What you need
- ATEM Mini Pro and its supplied power supply.
- One or more HDMI sources, such as cameras or computers, plus the required HDMI cables.
- For direct streaming: a CAT 5 Ethernet cable, a router with internet access, and a platform-issued stream key.
- For computer streaming: a USB-C connection to a computer and streaming software such as OBS.
- For multiview monitoring: an HDMI display connected to the ATEM Mini Pro’s HDMI output.
Blackmagic Design specifies four switchable, standards-converted HDMI inputs, USB webcam output, Ethernet, multiview, direct streaming, and direct recording. Check Blackmagic’s current documentation for software, firmware, media compatibility, and platform setup details, since these can change.
Connect sources and check multiview
- Connect the supplied power supply and power on the ATEM Mini Pro.
- Connect each camera or computer’s HDMI output to an ATEM Mini Pro HDMI input. Confirm that each source is outputting a format the switcher can use; consult current Blackmagic documentation and the source device’s manual if a feed does not appear.
- Connect an HDMI display to the switcher’s HDMI output and press M/V to display multiview. Use it to check the input feeds and preview/program status while switching.
- Select an input to put that source on the program output. Check the result on multiview before sending it to the streaming platform.
Choose how the ATEM reaches your streaming platform
| Workflow | Connection | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Direct streaming | ATEM Mini Pro Ethernet to an internet router | You want to stream without streaming software running on a computer. |
| USB webcam output | ATEM Mini Pro USB-C to a computer | You want software features such as computer-managed scenes, overlays, or platform integration. |
These are alternative stream paths; you do not need to use both. Blackmagic’s documented workflows support the connection and control distinctions above, not a general claim that either path is more reliable or produces better quality.
Stream directly over Ethernet
- In ATEM Software Control, open the output/streaming settings and choose the streaming platform. Select a server and enter the stream key issued by that platform. Interface labels may vary by software version; follow the current ATEM manual for the version installed.
- Connect the ATEM Mini Pro’s Ethernet port to your internet router with a CAT 5 network cable. Confirm the switcher has network access.
- Before broadcasting to viewers, test with color bars or a standby graphic. Start the stream and confirm that the signal appears correctly on the platform’s preview or test workflow.
- Once the picture, audio, and platform status are correct, switch to the intended program source and go on air. Blackmagic’s August 2024 manual describes pressing “on air” when ready; verify the current button and workflow in your installed software and firmware.
Blackmagic’s technical specifications list RTMP and SRT direct streaming support. The available workflow and settings depend on the selected platform, software, and firmware, so check current platform and Blackmagic guidance rather than assuming every platform accepts the same configuration.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Stream through a computer with OBS
- Connect the ATEM Mini Pro’s USB-C port to the computer.
- Open OBS or other streaming software and choose the ATEM as the video capture/webcam source.
- Arrange any software scenes, overlays, or other production elements, then configure the streaming destination and credentials in that software.
- Run a private or otherwise suitable test using the platform’s available preview workflow. Check the video, audio, and selected ATEM input before starting the public broadcast.
The ATEM’s USB-C connection presents webcam output to the computer, allowing streaming software to handle the platform-facing stream. Do not also configure the switcher’s Ethernet path unless your production specifically calls for it.
Record a local copy
The ATEM Mini Pro can record H.264 MP4 video with AAC audio to external media over USB-C. Blackmagic lists exFAT and HFS+ media formats. Connect a compatible drive and use the ATEM’s recording control; the getting-started guide describes connecting a USB drive and pressing REC. Check current Blackmagic documentation for drive compatibility and available space before relying on a recording for an important event.

Test and troubleshoot before going live
- No picture from an HDMI source: Check the source’s HDMI output, cable, selected ATEM input, and output format. Test the source and cable separately if needed, then confirm supported formats in current documentation.
- No multiview display: Confirm the monitor is connected to HDMI out and press M/V. Check the display input and HDMI cable.
- The platform does not receive the direct stream: Recheck the selected platform and server, the stream key, and the Ethernet connection to the router. Test with a standby graphic before the event.
- The ATEM does not appear in OBS: Confirm USB-C is connected to the computer, select the ATEM webcam source in OBS, and check that the intended ATEM input is live.
- The local recording does not start: Check the USB-C media connection, free capacity, and drive format. Verify compatibility against current Blackmagic guidance; do not assume every drive or format will work.
- Platform controls or workflow differ from these steps: Streaming interfaces and device software can change. Consult the current platform instructions and the manual matching your ATEM software/firmware.
Copyright and YouTube checks
Before streaming or recording material, make sure you have the rights needed for the video, music, and other content. YouTube’s handling of copyrighted material and reused content can affect a channel or stream; verify current YouTube policies and any applicable licenses before broadcasting. A successful connection test does not establish that the content is cleared for use.

The ATEM Mini Pro is for switching connected HDMI sources; if your goal is instead to keep uploaded video looping as a YouTube live stream, StreamNeo is a separate option. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed, and the stream runs from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, without re-encoding or quality tiers, and can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card; one free day is available per account. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or start the free day.
