You can automate URL2PNG captures by reading URL rows from a spreadsheet, signing and sending one API request for each URL, saving each returned image, and writing its location and status back to the matching row. URL2PNG documents the screenshot API; Google Sheets documents range reads and writes. You will need to connect those pieces in a script or service—neither source provides a ready-made spreadsheet integration.
How the spreadsheet workflow fits together
Treat each non-empty URL row as a capture job. A practical flow is:
- Read the relevant spreadsheet range using the spreadsheet provider’s API.
- Validate each URL and skip blank rows.
- Build URL2PNG’s v6 query string, calculate its token, and send the request.
- Save the resulting image to storage that will persist beyond the script run.
- Write the image location, filename, status, and any error to the original row.
Google Sheets API supports range reads and writes, including batch reads and updates; see the Google Sheets API reference. The reference establishes the sheet operations, not a URL2PNG-specific integration or storage setup.

Prepare URL2PNG credentials and request parameters
URL2PNG v6 requests use an API key, a token, and URL-encoded query parameters. Its Quickstart Guide describes the token as the MD5 hash of the entire query string concatenated with the secret key. The exact canonical query string must be used for both signing and sending, so parameter order and URL encoding matter.

- Keep the secret key in an environment variable or protected secret store, not in a spreadsheet cell, source repository, or public script.
- Construct the query string once, then use that exact string when calculating the signature and making the request.
- Validate URLs before requesting captures; do not turn arbitrary spreadsheet content into outbound requests without considering your own network and data policies.
Use URL2PNG’s current documentation for the exact v6 signing and parameter syntax for your implementation language. Its quickstart includes examples in Python, Node.js, curl, Ruby, PHP, and other languages. A spreadsheet runner must also supply its own authentication, storage, and sheet-update logic.
Choose capture settings before processing rows
URL2PNG documents controls for viewport dimensions, full-page captures, thumbnail width, custom CSS, Accept-Language and user-agent headers, delay, and a “say cheese” option that waits for a page element. The examples list a maximum viewport of 5000×5000. Its documented default TTL is 2,592,000 seconds (30 days), and fullpage defaults to false, meaning a viewport-only capture. Confirm supported syntax in the URL2PNG Quickstart Guide before deploying.
- Set viewport dimensions to the content you need; very large captures can create larger files and longer processing times.
- Enable full-page mode only when you need the whole document rather than the initial viewport.
- Use a delay or element-wait option when the target page needs time to render dynamic content.
- Use the
uniquevalue to force a fresh screenshot only when the page should be recaptured instead of served from cache.
Build the spreadsheet job safely
Read, validate, and preserve row identity
Read the URL column together with a stable row identifier or row number. Trim whitespace, skip empty cells, and reject malformed or unsupported values before making a request. Keep the original row association through every step so that a slow or failed capture cannot cause results to be written against the wrong URL.
Capture and store results
Make one signed URL2PNG request per accepted URL. Save each successful image to durable storage you control, then record a storage URL or filename in the sheet. Do not assume an API response itself is a permanent public image link; choose storage and access controls appropriate to your use case.

Write status and errors back
Write results in batches where practical. Useful columns include image_url, filename, status, captured_at, and error. Use explicit statuses such as queued, complete, and failed, and preserve the error text needed to diagnose failures. The Google Sheets API supports batch updates, which can reduce the overhead of updating many rows.
Scale, caching, and cost
URL2PNG’s plans page says cached screenshot loads within the 30-day cache period do not count as fresh renders. As listed on its official plans page accessed 2026-10-03, paid tiers were Bootstrapped at $29/month for 5,000 fresh screenshots, Traction at $99/month for 20,000, and Killinit at $199/month for 50,000. Listed extra-render charges were $0.006, $0.005, and $0.004 respectively; Enterprise was quote-based. The page says there is no free account and month-to-month cancellation is available. These are page listings at that date, not a guarantee of current terms: verify the URL2PNG plans page before budgeting.
Estimate usage in fresh renders rather than simply counting spreadsheet rows: unchanged URLs may be served from cache, while deliberately forcing uniqueness can trigger fresh rendering. A job that spans many rows should store progress and support reruns of failed rows rather than restarting the entire sheet.

If you have hundreds of URLs and want one downloadable archive rather than individually managed image links, url2image documents a separate batch interface. Its homepage describes pasting links, uploading CSV/text, or submitting JSON, then receiving a ZIP containing images plus manifest.json and not-rendered.csv. Its API documentation describes batch submission, job polling, and ZIP download. This is a different provider and endpoint, not a URL2PNG feature.

url2image’s stated limits and prices come from its official homepage and API docs; verify them before relying on them, since service terms can change. Its shorter retention period makes it important to download results promptly. Its destination restrictions also mean URLs targeting private or local services will not work.

Troubleshooting the automation
The API rejects the signature
Check that the query string used to calculate the MD5 token is identical to the one sent, including encoding and parameter order. Recheck the secret key and use the current signing instructions in URL2PNG’s quickstart.
A capture shows only the first screen
fullpage defaults to false. Enable full-page capture if you need the complete document, and confirm the parameter spelling and dimensions in the current docs.

Dynamic content is missing
Set an appropriate delay or use the documented “say cheese” element wait. The correct wait depends on the page; avoid assuming that a fixed delay guarantees that all content has loaded.
The sheet has a status but no image link
Separate capture success from storage success in your job statuses. If the image request succeeded but upload failed, retain the response or retry the storage step rather than recapturing unnecessarily.

Unexpected usage or stale output
Review whether repeated requests are cache hits or fresh renders, and whether your script sets unique. Avoid forcing uniqueness on every row unless a fresh capture is needed. Compare your processing log with the provider’s current plan definitions.

Can URL2PNG read a Google Sheet directly?
The cited URL2PNG documentation describes its screenshot API, not a direct Google Sheets connector. A script or automation service must read the sheet and submit the per-URL requests.
